My 50th birthday was in November. Wow, half a century! LOL! Simply put Mrs. Toshi got me a Academy 1/48 P-38 Lightning with a Eduard/Brassin Big Sin PE Resin set. These items are on it’s way to me. The Lightning is coming from South Korea, Seoul. The PE Resin set is coming from Australia.
I got really excited when my brother sent me a DeAgostino Tripitz. The detail is absolutely out of this world. Intricate would be a word to describe the Tripitz. He also sent me a mint condition WWII Military Currency Fifty Sen Japanese Bill. This is just awesome.
I just wanted to share that with you all. My second family!
Just watch that Tirpitz! Did you get the complete model or are you getting it via subscription or something like that?
Once I had a chance to watch their Bismarck being build and that kit had many problems. It would be wise to get plans for it and check the parts against the plans constantly, to be sure everything fits. It would also make sense to build all the mainstructure and dry fit them together before starting to cover them with PE.

No sir, it’s a complete model, that has been built. It’s a collectors item, with it comes a serial number and how many were made. What I meant was the note would go better with some Japanese ship, or maybe aircraft of the same era. Of course if you happen to run across some Italian currency of the same vintage, then you would complete the axis collection.
With the skills you show, you are definitly ready to tackle a ship if you desire.
I see, very much so! I do have several WWII Nazi bills that I can display with the Tripitz and I can place the Japanese Fifty Sen with my Zoukei Mura Shinden build. Maybe I’ll build an Italian aircraft with the appropriate currency and I’ll be fine! Thanks for the tip!
I built the USS Arizona last year in November. Check out that thread. I think I would like to tackle an aircraft carrier. I’ve seen several Academy Aircraft carriers at Hobby Lobby. I think it was the USS Hornet. That’s one of the carriers I would like to build. Do you know if that Academy’s ship kits are any good through your own personal experience. LMN Thank you in advance!
Do you remember the Monogram USS Enterprise (The nuclear powered version) back in the day? Now that’s one I’d like to get my hands on!!! LOL!

Thanks for the info on the carriers. I always wanted an aircraft carrier kit. The USS Arizona model after completion was given as a Christmas present in 2015 to my son. He has it displayed now. I also made a SR-71 and gave that as a Christmas present to my daughters boyfriend Brett.
When Brett was little, he made the SR-71 with his grandfather just before he died of cancer. The SR-71 is lost, broken, or thrown away by mistake. So this SR-71 is very important to him. Brett was so excited!
I built the P.T. 109 when I was 8 years old. I loved that kit. Especially the torpedo tubes. Those were so cool! I couldn’t get over it! LOL! Now I have to add that to my stash! Yes, I actually have enough kits to call it a stash. LOL!
I’ve got a Academy 1/72 P-51, Academy 1/72 TBF Avenger, Academy 1/72 P-38 Lightning with Eduard/Brassin PE/Resin AM set, and a Trumpeter 1/32 P-38 Lightning. I was originally going to let Mrs. Toshi sell the Trumpeter P-38 Lightning but she changed her mind and said that I should build it. She said every time I look at the Trumpeter kit she knows I want to build it. LOL! She said my face shows it! LOL!
Now you are in trouble Toshi. You’re on AARPs mailing list. You’ll start getting e-mails about all kinds of things you don’t know about and/or don’t want to know. I get about 5 or 6 e-mails a day from them. I keep opting out of them and one will stop and another will start. Then the snail mail will start. They put your name out to Insurance Companies and others. I see AARP in red at the top of the envelope and I just toss it into the recycle bag. I’m 76 and have been getting the stuff for 26 years. It never stops.
LOL! LOL! This process that you so graciously described has already started! 99% of the snail mail as well as their email get thrown out and or deleted. The only time being an AARP member that’s worth it is when Mrs. Toshi and I go to applebees! LOL! We eat off the senior citizens meals. LOL!
First, Happy Birthday! I saw that you were interested in a Revell PT 109. Somewhere I also saw you live in Ohio. At DrugMart they have them marked down, I believe. $10 or 15. I picked up an old P-51 there not to long ago.
P.S. I’m only on here because it’s snowy and freezing outside!! Good time to work on my Academy M-18 Hellcat, I guess.

There’s no snow here just flurries. We are at 23 degrees. So it’s cold enough to stay indoors and build models as you mentioned. That’s the best idea of all. Good luck with your Academy Kit!
…DrugMart just has a small section in the toy aisle. Just most of the basic Revell-Monogram models of my/your childhood. P-51s, Spitfires, Me 109s, etc…Testors Basic supplies…glue, brushes, small paints. Actually should give the store credit for getting me back into modelling. Found a P-61 Black Widow in a “Bargain Bin” for $12. …Ands it’s been downhill from there![:)]
I wish I had a DrugMart nearby, sounds like my types of kits. Cheap.
Toshi, since you have built the Revell Arizona, they have made the “Battle of Midway” carrier in a similar scale that can be built as Enterprise, Hornet, or Yorktown. They have also released the same kit under just the Enterprise, Hornet, or Yorktown. I think its out of production right now but the kits are all over the auction sites. This is a pretty good kit, probably has the most acurate lines for a Yorktown carrier of any kit, although there is flash and expect many parts loose off the trees, I think you will enjoy the large scale. I built this kit when I was 11 years old and won 1st place in my first model contest with it. I still have the model, although it looks a little long in the tooth for being built almost 40 years ago.
