Trimming the edges of masking tape!

I normally trim the edge just prior to applying the tape to the model/figure,as it will get rid of any dirt accumulated(which it does naturally no matter how well you store it) along the edge and give me a new sharper edge.

No only dirt but the edge is rounded esp. if it’s a new roll.

I havent in the past but after reading this past issue of FSM I will from now on. It probably explains why some edges of my canopies came out geat and others on the same canopey not so hot.

For the most part I don’t, but if I’m spraying a stencil or applying zimmerit I make sure they are cut nicely where it matters.

I do. I have one of those tools that has twin blades that cut a strip of masking tape. It’s really is useful for compound curves.

Being the son of an engineer type, I learned to do all sortsa stuff in the course of my modeling which makes most folks go: “uh… why?” This is one of 'em. I don’t have any fancy tools to do it, though. A good blade, straight edge and a piece 'o glass is all I need…

Fade to Black…

Don’t really remember when or why I started trimming tape, it’s just automatic now.

I’ve always trimmed the edge of my masking tape - always get a cleaner edge that way. I got the plate glass from a photocopy machine many years ago - works great.
