After extensive consultation this company began production of a reliable, single-engine monoplane that could be easily adapted to all kinds of conditions. It first flew in August 1947, with the first production aircraft being delivered in April 1948. The plane was an immediate success in the aviation community, and when production finally ceased in 1967, 1,657 of this aircraft had been built. Despite the fact that production ceased nearly forty years ago, hundreds are still flying—many of them heavily modified to adapt to changes in technology
and needs. These aircraft are so highly prized that an aircraft from the 1950s that originally sold for under $50,000 can now be seen for sale at prices reaching US $500,000. This aircraft has seen military use as well.
