Treadhead tries a Lib

Hey all!! I spend alot more time in Armor but I love WWII aircraft. This is the second aircraft I’ve tried since starting back up. It’s the old Monogram 1/48 B.24J. I did the markings for a plane my Uncle flew in the 44thBG, 66sqd." Jersey Jerk". I had to make the call letters out of black decals from invasion stripes from a P.47 kit. I was able to get the marking s from the Best B24 site.
My uncle flew 34 missions over Europe only to perish in a crash in Scotland 6-13-45 on his way home.
I have one more of this kit and this was kind of a first try and on the next one I’m gonna try Alcad.Made some errors, but that’s how I learn.[D)]

Nice Libby… I love it.

Jerry

Hey Andy

Beautiful job on this old monogram bird. Very clean build. So many 1/72 heavies have the canopy glazing screwed up, you nailed it on this one, nice and crisp with no glue bumps. Weathering is convincing but not overdone, overall a fine study and a great family tribute for you. My condolences for your uncle, after all that combat flying, to perish in an accident is just too sad. I’m sure you’ll have a special place to display this fine model.

Steve

Thanks Steve and Jerry. As I said it was a learning experience. The old Mono kit has some serious fit problems and filling and sanding aren’t my strong point. I got two kits on ebay specifically to work out the bugs on the first and then do it up right on the second. This one’s going to my aunt, the second to my Father. It is quite a sad storie for him and his crew. They were shot up several times and presummed lost on one mission only to show up the next day after landing in Belgium and refueling. I guess out running some FW’s into the clouds took them off course and ate up fuel. This is a link to the crash site in Scotland.

Looks great! It’s sure to become a treasured family relic.

Great looking build. Subtle weathering is outstanding!

Great tribute — thanks for sharing.

great tribute and great build… that was a great site by the way on the memorial, and a more fitting memorial I don’t think I have seen!

Good luck on the next one with Alclad. I think the difference in the paint is night and day, although you did the model justice with the one you used. Alclad will bring the model to life for you!!!

Great job on the Lib ! such a great airplane. I love the WW2 heavies.

Andy,

Very nice build ! Great job

Chris

Regards, Rick

beautiful work. wonderful build.

Thanks all!! I was hesitant to post it compared to the builds I see here!! I’m excited about trying the Alcad and have been doing alot of research on the technique. I sorta just winged this one with Tamiya Alluminun and steel.

I like it.

Very nice Liberator. The NMF looks fine to me. A nice tribute to your uncle; I’m sure he would be honored.

Mark

very good looking Lib, gives me some hope when i finally get the nerve to start on my -24D from revell germany. Lots of raised detail that might get lost with the filling and sanding!!!

Great build and awsome tribute to your uncle!!!
Thanks for sharing!

Skip the treads-you do great wings!!!

Dan

Thanks again all!! Your knd comments give me the incentive to keep on building!! I don’t have much chance to share this hobby with anyone around where I live.(No clubs or even a LHS for many miles) Matt, while these kits are impressive get ready for some fit probs!! Thanks again all.
