Wife and I were at one of many cars show we go to last year and I spotted this Ford tractor with a flatty in the business end. I Just thought it was so kewl. So…I see this Porsche Diesel Junior 108 tractor kit a HL from time to time so the wheels got to turning. I’m putting together a 53 Crown vic currently that has a nice stock flathead but I think I’d like one with two carbs. Going to have to look around and see what kind of flatty I can come up with. Anybody built one of these yet?
You might want to find a Heller Ferguson tractor kit. This is very similar to the Ford tractors of that era. The Porsche is a smaller tractor.
Thanks for the info Greg. On the Porsche kit it says it’s a 1/24 scale and that’s what I was going by. I was thinking about putting a flatty out of the AMT 53 Crown Vic into this tractor.
That’s probably a Ford 9N (9 for 1939) tractor that the owner dropped a flathead V8 into. Not Ford stock, but quite a few have been done that way. A V8 from anytime in the early Ford V8 era, 32 to 53, would work. Again, none came with the dual carbs, but it was a common speed mod. If you’re going to go to the trouble to drop a V8 into a tractor, might as well goose it up a bit.
The suggestion of using a Ferguson as a basis is a good one. Interesting fight between Ford and Ferguson over patents on the three point hitch.
There’s a youtube site called “hpiguys workshop” and he has built this tractor, the other green German tractor from Revell, and Heller’s Fergusson tractor kit too. All of them were good builds and should answer any questions that you may have about this kit. Have you seen the 1/35 early German tractors from Miniart yet?
Based on the rear hubs of the tractor in the photo, it is a Ford 8n. There were aftermarket flathead conversion kits available to give the tractor a power boost.
I would second the advice on trying to find Heller’s te-20 Ferguson to use as a base. Ford manufactured Ferguson tractors from 1939 up until 1947 when Ferguson sued Ford for patent infringement.
i was at HL today and they had the Reveal Porsche junior 108 tractor kit in stock but this is not the week for the 40 percent off. I’ll check back next week. I did notice on all three kits they had in stock they were not wrapped in clear plastic. Kind of strange I thought.
