I’m building DML’s Battle of the bulge King Tiger. I want to get a Fruli track set for it. Which type should I get as there are multiple sets for the King Tiger?
There are three sets available, the transport tracks, ATL-21, Tiger II/Hunting Tiger ATL-22, and the VERY LATE ATL-37. If you are depicting a Tiger fresh off the rail car, delete the mudguards and use ATL-21. If you are depicting a Bulge Tiger, I would go with ATL-22, which retail for $39.99, I bought mine for $34.99. The LATE set I picked up for $39.99, but, this box comes with the correct 18 tooth sprockets (metal) required for this track.
There is some debate as to whether a few T2’s with the final track were deployed in the Ardenne. According to Tom Jentz ( Osprey “Kingtiger Heavy Tank 1942-45”) the single link design was accepted in late November of 1944, but was not fielded until March '45.
Note: if you depict the vehicle with the narow transport track, keep in mind that two or three out of every ten links were painted red, to distinguish the tracks from that of the Tiger 1.
Hope this helps…
Long live the king!

Steve
However there are pictures of atleast one KT with Kgs72/800/152 tracks from BOB.

Regarding teh Friul tracks I must say that I tend to stick to Modelkasten tracks, however they only offer the Gg 26/800/300 tracks so if you want to depict a KT with anything else than this Friul is the way to go.
I used Modelkasten tracks on this BOB KT. This is the Tamiys kit but the tracks fit both kits.
