OK Gang I have tried a couple of things but I just cant get my treads to look right. Can some of you give me your techniques for painting treads and then adding rust and what have you.
Here’s the method that I use … though there are many different ones too.
- Tracks with rubber shoes
- paint the entire track black
- paint the end connectors and guide teeth with gunmetal
- dry brush the metal parts with rust
- drybrush the metal parts with steel
- burnish the metal parts with pencil lead
- dust with pastels chalks
- Steel Tracks
- paint the entire track gunmetal
- dry brush with rust
- drybrush with steel
- burnish with pencil lead
- dust with pastels chalks

Muddy/dirty tracks:
- Paint the same earth tone you inteand to weather the hull and road wheels
- Lightly drybrush the contact points with the ground and roadwheels gun metal
- Lightly drybrush with silver or burnish with pencil lead…
