Too Many Paint Bottles!

If anybody has creative ideas for storing and organizing the scores of the little paint bottles you own-please share.

I think the racks at the hobby stores are pretty slick except I have my paints from 3 distinct manufacturers (Tamiya, Hubrol, Testors) so this wouldn’t work.

I got 2 Gunze Sangyo paint racks at my LHS, they can hold most paints except modelers. Not sure about Testors not available around here.

Hobby Link Japan I think also has some paint racks for sale, smallish but they might suit you.

i bought a color wheel and some cheap tempra paints and practiced mixing colors for a few days. you can get several paint chips of colors or you can usually find a picture of the models your assembling on line and find the shade your looking for. my favorite models are wwII birds so i went to my hobby shop and purchased tamiya flat white, black, blue, green, yellow, red, and flat base and just mix the colors i need. i know this may seem like a pain in the rear to most who read it, but there are alot of colors out there. How many times are you gonna use the color? if your gonna use it quite a bit, buy the color, if not, mix the color. it saves much storage space to mix if possible, and its cheaper. with weather, age, and war damage, who knows the exact shade the color will be found in? youll have to buy the paints like gunmetal, aluminum, ect… hope this helps.http://www.naplak.com/modeling/tips/color_guide.htm#tamiya

I build my kits on a large desk with several drawers. I keep my paint bottles in one of them. The problem is that I can’t read the labels since the only thing showing are the lids. Solution?
I place a small piece of masking tape on the lid, label it with the color and also place a small dab of the paint on it for quick reference. Works good! Now I just need to organize them into RLM, RAF etc.

good job. i have so few paint bottles, it all fits on one of those aztek carasels, those little florescent orange ones. all my tools except my compressor fit on that.

Similar problem here. I use those 3-drawer plastic desk organizers. I put round labels available from office supply stores on the tops and label the color. That’s one advantage of Tamiya paints, the bottle colors are the paint colors.

Yup-- I use the little circle labels on my paint tops as well-- and even have color coded them for enamels, acyrlics, etc…
