finally got underway on painting my ferrari 360 by tamiya; the tree parts.
and Ive realized, a 0 brush is quite useless… its too thin for anything of decent size; yet its like a giant sharpie when doing detail work… took me 2 hours to do the air manifold cover; going back and forth over and over with 3 colors sandwhiched and one would just slip into the other and then repaint and again and again, and I set a new level for how anal I can be.
however I can say with certainty that its the best painting Ive ever done. far from the quickest however. on the plus side; I did the valve covers which are also 2 tone; and I managed to get the 2 tone look done the first shot without any slips.
It should be, or what’s the point? There are times where I’ll spend a couple of hours over the magnifier lamp working on some tiny part, either painting or carving with a sharp Exacto blade. Although occaisionally it can be tedious, (1/72 Abrams road wheels come to mind), I usually end up in some sort of an almost Zen like trance. A few minutes after I start, I’ll look at the clock and realize that I’ve been working on the task for a couple of hours.
haha, i find myself sometimes getting really agitated by models, but still better than any other activities to keep me in the chair.
anyway, why not try the 10/0 or 18/0 or even 20/0 brushes next time on the edges, n use the 0 to fill the rest? they dont hold the paint well but oh well, beats going over the same surfaces then entire time.
what can drive me crazy is dealing with small, miniscule parts! i’m currently building a Flammpanzerwagen halftrack, and it took me two hours to put together the compressor. It has around 50 parts to it. drove me crazy.
Ares, how about some pics of the ferrari? although i normally build armour, I really want to build a ferrari. how do you like the Tamiya kit?
I have always loved tamiya kits; as compared to revell and monogram and that sort. Ive never tried a kit that is higher in quality, not sure who that would be or where I would buy it anyway. but tamiya seems a fine price point for the quality of the model.
I think their enzo kit was even more detailed and impressive; thats why Im doing both.
As with any gratifying experience, model building has it’s aggravations. All I have to do is look at marriage and child rearing. I wouldn’t do without any of the three.
BTW, I think the Ferrari 360 is one of the most beautiful vehicles ever made. Good luck with it.
