after 5 years and 6 month totaling 4.340hrs. I have finally finished my major project an Escort Carrier the USS Sangamon CVE-26 in the scale of 1:72!
There are 28 aircrafts on board and exactly 423 figures!, The ship is complete scratch build and for the aircrafts I used only the fusalges, folded wings are scratch build too as well as all the rest of equipment on the flight deck like the Jeeps, tractors, bombcarts and the “Tilly”
This model was a dream of mine for more than 25 years and now I do not know if I should feel happy or sad!Take alook at my pictures and I hope you like them. I have taken a few hundred of them during all the time when I build that model so if you want to see more take a look at my website: www.usns.biz
That is ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE!!! I cannot even imagine undertaking such an ambitious project. You have done an amazing job, truly worthy of the O.T.T. [tup][tup][tup][bow][bow][bow]
Congratulations on an enormous accomplishment, Rene. That diorama would be impressive if it were done by a team of people, but to have done it by yourself is a rare thing.
Rene’, just beautifull !! my hats off to you. thats some life time dream ! the great part is you did reach your dream. its just fantastic. any idea off whats next ?? or is there going to be a next ?[#toast]
HOLY COW!!!.. Hieronymus, you need to get this put in FSM Magazine. I have seen other 1/72 carriers in there before and they are amazing. And yours is amazing too!!!..[#toast]…[bow][bow]
Rene, don’t feel happy or sad, feel proud! That’s a great diorama (I guess that’s what that would be called!)! Thank you for sharing with us!. I’ve got a question about the aircraft: Did you simply decide to scratchbuld most of the planes, or was it neccesity, i.e. no planes with folds available?
WOW!! What a model!! Or shouldI say models! I’d love to see this one in person. Where is it being displayed? I think this would be a great documentary (how you built it, what you used, planning, etc.). I for one would be glued to the TV screen (no pun intended). My dad served aboard LST 1010 and was involved in the invasion of southern France several weeks after D-Day. I’ve always wanted to build a large-scale replica of his ship as a memorial to him (he passed away in 1986). After looking at your work, I’m getting excited about that possibility again. I can only hope it turns out half as good as yours if I end up doing it.
The ship is still displayed here in my home. There are plans to bring the model to a museum in the US but sofar we are still waiting for their answers. About your idea for a large scale LST keep on planing and someday you may be able to accomplish this model, the same occured to me with this carrier. I had the plan to start this project more than 25 years ago and I never could get it out of my head until the day when I statrted it. And I can tell you, that it was perhaps the greatest fun of all models I have built sofar.
So keep on dreaming but make sure to make your dream come true its really worth the waiting!
