The most substantial modifications in the Tiger I’s which distinguished the Middle Production Tigers from the Early Production versions (such as those seen in North Africa) took place just before the introduction of Zimmerit–probably the most important change was in the redesigned turret with the new, lower-profile commander’s cupola, which was introduced about July of 1943, the same month in which Zimmerit was first utilized.
