To what unit does this 17 belong?

Picked up this tiny 17 at thrift store for a minimal sum.To what unit does it belong?

I believe the triangle “W” was for the 398th Bomb Group.

Mike is correct. They’re the markings on the EAA B-17 ‘Aluminum Overcast,’ restored in the markings of Col. Harold Weekley’s a/c from 601 Sq. You can read about it here - complete with color photos.

The original was shot down over France in 1943. EAA owns this other aircraft painted in a commemorative paint scheme. Maybe someone bought that model at an air show. I’ve been known to do that…
