TM's

Anybody here have any TM 1-1520-237-23 series manuals on .pdf or can link to them? I can obtain them soon, I’m sure, just wanted to see something now instead of waiting to go to work. By the way, I have not yet introduced myself. I have been a modeler since age 7, with a hiatus from age 13 to age 40. I served 12 years active duty as a 67T, and have worked for a defense contractor performing maintenance on uh-60’s since leaving active duty, so I’ve been a 60 guy for 18+ years now. Guess what model I am currently building? OF course, the Academy 1/35 UH-60L. I really enjoy this forum and now that I have said ‘hey’, I’ll try not to just lurk in the shadows.

Here you go. Check here and scroll down to the TM 1-1520-237-23 series manuals. They are all linked to PDF. files.

Edit: Looks like you ned a password for TM’s on the USAPA website, sorry.

Welcome to the forum

Thanks. I will obtain the .pdf Tm’s soon. Feel free to ask for whatever info you may need regarding the UH60.

Send me your email and I have the 60 '10 on .pdf

oh, my email is mscottholt@hotmail.com or Mark.Holt1@us.army.mil

Wellcome!
I have couple of questions if you don’t mind[;)]
#1 HOIST

“…324 had a hoist mount, but no hoist was installed. It would be a U shaped piece of metal about a foot long and about a foot forward of the right hand engine air inlet…”
The problem is that I have no idea how the mount looks like at the end where it suppose to connect to hoist… I suspect there are some wires or holes but picture or little explanation might help. [;)]

#2 HUD
“…324 had a HUD (heads up display) for the right side pilot. It was about 11 inches long, by about two inches square. The pilot could look through it for weapons sighting, although it wasn’t used much…”

I found only one pic of the hud in the manual:

but it doesn’t show where the exact mount place is and how the HUD looks like in OFF position… I mean it probably can be moved or turned away somewhere not to block the pilot’s view when its not in use…

Thanks
Andy
P.S. this is for my MH-60L [;)]

intruder_bass:
Regarding your HUD question, I think I can help. The diagram you posted looks pretty identical to those that I worked on with AH-1Ws and UH-1Ns. What is pictured is not really a true HUD, but something called ANVIS HUD. It consists of the optical unit mounting to the side of the pilot’s night vision goggles, and the lens fits directly over one of the NVG lenses. This then produces an image inside the NVGs that displays all the HUD graphics and information. Consequently, the ANVIS HUD system you have pictured can only be used under conditions where NVGs are used. As far as mounting the units, as I mentioned, the optical unit mounts directly on the side of the NVGs with the monocle over the NVG lens. The power supply unit will hook up to a cannon plug somewhere in the cabin, and will most likely be hanging loose or stuffed down out of the way (on skids, anyways), not really mounted to anything. Our models weren’t meant to be moved out of the way when off, I beleive. Once they are screwed on over the NVG lens, they are pretty much on there.

Oh Thanks! So the power supply might be connected to cockpit ceiling for example with the optical unit just hanging down on a cord? I suspect that on UH-60 it was located somewere on the top console close to overhead light…
Thanks again
Andy

Intruder,
On the Navy Hotel the hud connection is on the bulkhead above and over the right shoulder of the pilot/co-pilot.
here is a picture of the hoist mounting point on an HH-60H, the Air Force and Army adapted the same hoist

hope that this was what you needed

IYAOYAS!!!

Yeah, the HUD is clipped onto the goggles. The connection is made at a connector that hangs down from the cockpit ceiling; just behind the upper console left & right respectively for co-pilot and pilot. A control head was mounted on the lower center console, all the way aft, facing forward and ‘upside down’. Each collective stick had an additional ‘china hat’ installed where it can be manipulated by the thumb, in order to select/deselect what was viewed in the hud.
What did you want to know about the hoist?

Basicly I need a cross-section of the hoist mount… what is inside this U-shaped piece of metal???

Andy

Andy,

I apologize. I was swamped at work today and did not have time to look up your hoist mount. I have not worked on any 60’s equipped with an external hoist. I have used the internal mount hoist in my MEDEVAC days. Unfortunately I won’t be able to respond to your question until Monday, sorry bro.

[:)]No problem… thanks for trying to help.

Here is a simple pencil drawing of what I meant by “hoist mount end cross-section”

Witch one of the profiles is closer to original?

Andy

andy,
i think that we have a bird in the hanger right now that has the farings removed. i will try and get photos on monday

Andy,
Regarding the hoist installation, if I read it correctly, the “U” shaped item you saw should be the base support and is part of an assembly that mounts into the airframe fitting shown in the photo Firehawk Ordie posted.

There is what’s called a support arm which mounts into the base support (the "U"shaped item) making up what’s called the support assembly. This assembly is then mounted into the airframe fitting. The hoist is then installed on the end of the support assembly.

Depending on the hoist installed (electric or hydraulic) there will be some electrical cabling and hydraulic hoses running out from the airframe, along the support assembly, and up to the hoist. I haven’t worked the Army side of the house in some time, so I’m not sure which hoist is on the MH-60L.

If Ordie or RotorRob can’t get any photos, I should be able to dig something up at work, that will help you out.

Mike

Thanks a lot guys for helping me! It is realy appriciated!
So now when I know the right name for this equipment, i can formulate a more accurate question[;)] BTW I don’t know what kind of hoist (electric or hydraulic) was used on 160th birds back in 93’ . Hope Salbando can help[:)]
so:
I need the picture of the profile of the end of the support assembly of the hoist of the mh-60L[:D][:D][:D]
P.S.
You guys can’t even imagine how funny this sentence sounds in russian[:D]

Andy

Andy,
I was able to come up with a couple of things for ya. First, the hoist installed on the MH’s is the hydraulic type.

Second, I was able to dig up and label a couple of photos showing the hoist. It’s not a MH illustrated in the photo, but, the installation is the same.

Mike

:-(((( nothing

A question about these TMs that have been discussed - do they indicate proper stencil markings on the airframe? I’m looking for that info to help someone with a decal sheet and wanted to ask here before I started a specific thread on the subject.

Thanks in advance
