Tiran 5

Here are some shots of my M1A1 that most of you have seen already, but it was a beautiful day outside and I just had to get some shots of it in the sunlight. And… since I was already going to take picks of my new Tiran, why not?

Friend or Foe?

I love the MM and Tamiya clear colors. Check the vision blocks and “doghouse” glass…

The rack on the right is from a picture I found of a USMC M1 that they had obviously built for the purpose. Just had to add one to the build.

Ok, this is a Hobbycraft knock-off of a Trumpeter Iraqi T-59 that I modified into the Israeli Tiran 5 (Ti-67). I saw many pictures of this tank on an Israeli modelers page and I fell in love with it instantly. I found the kit for it from Verlinden in my area, but they wanted $35 for it! I looked at about a hundred pictures of this tank on the net and decided that I could do it myself. Here are the results:

Yeah, some details are off, but I really had a great time building this model and I learned more doing this one than I have any other in recent history. This is also the first kit that I ever used Epoxy Putty on. I used the Tamiya fast-dry formula for weld seams on the tool boxes and turret bustle.

I have talked crap about Hobbycraft kits before in this forum, but I must say, with all the stuff that is wrong with their kits, I sure do use a lot of techniques and learn a heck of a lot fixing them into what I want! And the prices are great! This kit cost $18.33 plus about $5 dollars for the sheet styrene and styrene rods. Not too bad when you look at it like that…

I did order the Tiran 5 kit from AEF Designs for $17.50 the other day so I am definitely going to do another one of these!

Looks great!

thanks for sharing.

awesome!
All the hard work shows. I really enjoyed the pics, thanks.

Both pics and models looks great.
Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff.

And a fine job you did of it!!! [:D]
5 bucks and the pleasure and pride of a scratchbuild will never be matched by a 35 dollar AM kit.
Very nicely done!

Great job on those models!

Love the look of those tanks outside too! That makes it look so realistic!

Keep up the excellent work! [^]

Looks great man… Keep up the good work…
Tom

good job soldier. that Tiran is just beggin for indie trax, and a flash woulda lightened up the shadows

excellant work on both models!! i think you’ve inspired me to build a Tiran-5[:)] i’ll have to buy the verlinden set though[V]

Fantastic looking models, all the hard work has paid off big time!

Don’t buy the Verlinden kit warmonger.

Check out www.aefdesigns.com and get their kit. Just as nice from what I can tell and half the price at $17.50.

Very nice builds. Thanks for sharing.

The Tiran 5 is excellent. I have a conversion from Trakz to do this vehicle and was hoping for a little bit of inspiration. Be careful when order from AEF, they can take a long time to send out your stuff.

When I spoke with the fella at AEF he said he was running at two weeks right now, but he didn’t see any problem with mailing my stuff next week. Cross my fingers and hope for the best.

Great job, Scorn [tup]

Nice job on both. Great photos

Both tanks look great…great effort on each one…

Regards, Dan

The only think new here is this post. The original image link that I used for these pics was dead so I just updated them.
