I was just wondering if you can tint windows. I want to tint the side windows on a Revell Foose 1965 Chevy Impalla and was wondering if that is possible, and if so how would I go about doing it. Thanks.
Might try Tamiya Smoke, lightly airbrushed in several coats. Paint on the inside. Mask the outside to guard against overspray.
Get some clear styrene or plastic to practice on before committing to the kit windows.
Another thought…check with a local tint business and see if you can get sample trimmings of the various shades of their tint film
I think Goldhammer has this right. I’ve tinted windows with thin Tamiya smoke and light passes successfully. Practice on the clear junk parts first but this should work very well for you.
Another method is to use a clear acrylic medium, like Future, and tint it.
Hi Tojo! That’s what I do. A small amount of food coloring (your choice of color) added to Future and mixed well, then either sprayed onto the canopy or dip the canopy into the mix. Works for me.

Food coloring dyes work on many clear plastics- wide variety of colors.
You need to do some experimenting first. Try a test on a piece of the sprue, or a part you don’t want to use. Add food dye to warm (skin temp) water, dunk plastic in it and observe every few minutes to check color, for timing the real pieces.
Thanks Guys: I am goin to try what you said Rocketman2, and if I have no luck wth that, I do have some Future that I can add dye to it and see if that works! Thanks again guys. Your ideas are appriciated.
Yes, you can tint model car windows! Use transparent tint film or spray made for plastic models. Apply lightly and evenly for the best look.
How about getting some tint scraps from a tint shop and use real tint film?
This is exactly what I was going to suggest. I had struggled with getting uniform tinting, trying various methods like inks, transparent colours, tinting clear coats, even separating coloured carrier from metallic enamel paints.
Then years ago I met a guy who did amazing car models. He did a lot of customizing and mods, lots of tinted windows. His secret…? Actual vehicle window tint - go figure. This was many years ago, technology has changed, but I’m sure it’s an even better, thinner, easier to apply product now. As a bonus, I’ve seen some interesting colours of tints as well. Considering the size of windows we usually deal with, even a piece of tint 12”x12” would provide a substantial amount of tinted windows.
This is how I’ve done it on my rc car bodies, not show quality but it works pretty good. I’m positive it can be done show quality, I just didn’t get there.
lol I didn’t notice this was a 2022 post.
