I am currently finishing a 66 Ford Fairlane and decided I wanted to tint the autoglass using a mixture of Future and food colouring similar to what some of the aircraft modelers do for cockpit canopies. The Future dip looks good and I have a slightly blue tinted set of “glass” to add to my Fairlane.
The question I have is…once I install the glass and complete the model, I intended to spray Future over the entire build for a nice gloss finish. Will the gloss coat of future “lift” the color from my tinted winshield and side glass???
If anyone has any thoughts, I would really appreciate hearing them.
I hesitate to say “NO”, because there are no absolutes in modeling.
What works 99 times in row will not work the 100th time, or what works for me every time will not work for you the first time you try it and you’ll think I’m an idiot.[:D]
That all said, I have never had a problem with color lifting from a tinted window/canopy with Future over coats. . .knock styrene.
Tinting the inside with the tinted Future and then masking off the sides (if there isn’t any side glass) seems like a good way to go … just my [2c] … [swg]
I never had an adverse reaction like that, but as Don says, I hesitate to state that it won’t.
I always dipped the entire transparency in the future, held with a clothespin on the edges; then let it dry out real good under a box (to prevent dust). The Over-coat of future always went on clean.
