What do you think of the two books that are out in paperback from Stackpole books, Tigers in Combat 1 and 2? Is it worth the $30 for each compaired to other reference books on the Tiger? Thanks, Greg.
Well I know their ‘hardbound’ equivalents are more expensive. I’ve read of other AFV websites that the ‘paperback’ versions do not have all the pictures the ‘hardbounds’ do, but against the differences in price I’d say the ‘paperback’ versions are a good value. I have both on order and am waiting for delivery, so I haven’t yet seen them with my own eyes!
Just did some searching over on Amazon.com. Here’s what I found:
Jean Restayn 's “Tigers on the Eastern Front” and “Tigers on the Western Front”, both hardbound versions, are selling for $25.05.
Wolfgang Schneider’s “Tigers in Combat ONE” and “Tigers in Combat TWO”, both hardbound versions, are selling for $175 for a used version, although reportedly in ‘like new’ condition, and are both selling for $288 in ‘new’ condition.
Over at GreatModels one can order a copy of MMiR’s “Modeler’s Guide to the Tiger Tank”, paperback version, for $26.05
So there is some Tiger reference materials and their associated costs!

I have heard that they don’t have all the pictures either and they are not the same quality as the hardback books, possibly due to the paper that is used.
I have both hardback books and they are awesome.
BTW. I know someone who is trying to sell his hardback copies but he lives in NZ.
If you are looking for a more technical work then you can’t beat Germany’s Tiger Tanks DW to Tiger I and VK45.02 to Tiger II by Jentz and Doyle, both excellent books and relatively cheap.
I have noticed that the photos in the paperback versions are generally poor quality. Were the photos in the hard back nice and sharp?
Generally yes, although a lot of the photos are personal snapshots so the quality does vary as can be expected.
I’ve picked up both paperback versions and I’m extremely happy with them…of course getting both for under $40.00 compared to over $100.00 for ONE of the hardcover versions was a huge deciding factor. I would highly recommend these books…
I am very happy that I got my hardbound versions back when they were still reasonably priced. But if the paperback version is even 1/2 as good at 1/8 the price they are still very, VERY much worth it, it is quite simply the best Tiger photo reference available.
Thanks guys I’m off to Borders!
