Anyone know if their were any tiger I tanks present during the Arnhem debacle? How about Stug III’s and what Ausf? I have a couple of choices for a Diorama and they need some German armour. Some of you WW II armour geniuses could probably even tell me what divisions so I can get the markings right!! Wide open for suggestions as to colours etc. Kind of like the yellow colour that most german armour came in after '43. Thanks for any input guys.
Don’t know about Tigers, but there were StuG III Gs involved. Do searches under Market Garden and am sure you can get some reference pics. Some of the resident experts can probably add more detailed info, but that’s a start I’d recommend. [:D]
Can’t state for sure if any Tigers were present. The 9th and 10th Panzer Divisions were present. My guess is a Tiger may have been there, based on the fact the SS tended to get the best equipment. Unable to find info though.
The yellow is known as Dunkelgelb. Tamiya makes a version called Dark Yellow. I haven’t used Model Master’s but it is probably under a RML# or called Dunkelgelb.
According to my “Armor at war series” reference book, the following Panzer divisions were in the Arnhem area: Primary armor listed in ( )…
9th SS Panzer division “Hohenstaufen” , SS-pz AA.9 (Jagdpanzer IV)
10th SS Panzer division “Frundsberg”, I./SS-Pz Rgt.10 (Pz IV, StugIII, Panther)
Panzer-Ersatz Reg. (Pz III, IV)
schwere Panzer-Kompanie Hummel, Gruppe Fuhrer (Tiger I)
schwere Panzer-Ableilung 506, 2nd and 3rd gruppe Fuhrer (Tiger II)
Sturmgeschutz-brigade 280, Gruppe Fuhrer ( Stug III, Stuh 42G)
Panzer-kompanie 244 Gruppe Fuhrer (PzB2, 35s Flammpanzers)
You guys are amazing! I think I posted this 15 minutes ago! Thanks Panther 18 for the whirlwind research. Now, if only you guys could give me the numbers for the next lottery…
Thanks again guys.
As a quick aside, a friend of mine from Seattle had a Porsche 911 with the license plate pzkpfw IV. In 4 years the only people who recognized what his plate meant were myself and a customs officer between Vancouver, BC Canada and the US!!! Don’t imagine he would have got past you guys.
Panther18 is right on the mark. I 'm building a Tiger I from Kampfgruppe Hummel and a King Tiger from schwere PzAbt 506. I may build a Panther from the 10.SS. Frundsberg.
Thanks for excellent info. I could use some tank numbers from the tiger 1’s. Also, what colours would those tanks have been? I will try to find some decal numbers for them that would match. If I can’t do you know who would make them? Thanks for your research. I have 4 Red Devils with a Piat that are just itching to knock some road wheels of my tiger!
Tigerman’s right on the color scheme…
