Got some paint on, working on the weathering, thought I would post a few pics, it’s along way from done. This vehicle is from 2/sPzAbt 502 Northern sector Eastern front July '43. Hans Bolter used this “445” to destroy 13 T-34’s after his 1st company tank was disabled, winning the Knights Cross in the third battle of Lake Ladoga (Leningrad).
Looks great Crockett. It’s good to know the story behind the number. I went back and looked at your earlier threads on this and enjoyed all the pics with the maybach in them.
Nice work on the Panzer IV Anthony14. I like the peeled/chipped paint where the gray shows through.
Looks like everyone thinks this is the academy 1/35th kit. As Brian has stated, this is the discontinued 1/25th scale Tamiya release from the seventies. I found this kit at Old Guard Hobbies in Detroit while on business. It was unopened and had been traded in by a kit collector (not a builder). I scooped it up. I had built one many years ago, but it was OOB and had been destroyed (kids, fell off the shelf). I was determined to build it again and to do my best to accurize the interior. The kit was initially released as a battery operated model, so the interior was totally inaccurate.
If you guys are interested, I have been posting along as I have fully scratched, kit bashed and “Barney” built the entire hull and turret interior, do a forum search and you can view the entire build. When I get the exterior where I want it, I will post the whole shebang as a finished model, interior and exterior.
Thanks to Peridexion, (Brian, J-Hulk), Jason and the rest of the team for aiding with reference links for interior photos etc.
German Armor is an addiction and a mission for me now days.
Steve, here are a few suggestions you may want to consider for accurizing your beautiful Tiger even more:
You could add the reinforced holes on the front fenders that were used for the sprocket-changing crane-like apparatus:
See them? The location is not precisely accurate on my Tiger, but that’s the best we can do on the inaccurate fender Tamiya gave us (you could, of course, scratchbuild the whole fender!).
Also, you could add the flanges on the air intake hoses and Feiffel air cleaners, like this:
Kinda hard to see in this pic, but do you see what I mean? The square plates with bolts that connect the metal tubes to the hoses. Actually, there should be similar flanges between the metal tubes and the bodies of the Feiffels themselves, but I missed them.
You could also add the tow cable tiedowns on the rear deck, which hold down the big loops as they lay on the deck in between the forward and rear grills. You can just barely see them in my pic.
Hope this helps! [:)]
Ahh yes, I see it!, I seeit! cool info, thanks Brian! Something else I can get from your build, the loader hatch reaction arm was not included in the Tamiya kit. I can add that too. I posted a new thread commending Captain Caveman for posting his 3 in1 thread, I noticed from the promo graphics on the link some other blatant errors I’ve made. luckily, they are all “fixable” at this stage of the build.
Thank you very much for these tips, I really appreciate it!
Happy to help a fellow 1/25er!
I’m trying to think if there’s anything else I can throw your way…
There are also tiedown clamps on the looped ends of the tow cables, up front. You can just barely see them in my pic.
I may have been wrong to paint the insides of the hatches white. Too late for me!!
Looking forward to seeing more progress pix, Steve!
Blimey, just browsing through all these photos shows me I have a lot to learn…and aspire to! Both your Tiger and Hulk’s are making me feel ashamed of myself. Keep it up!
