Saw a color plate with what appears to be a whitewash over a green body color. The plate is of a Tiger I H. Are there any Tiger I H kits avaiable out of the box?
The Tiger I is singly the most popular 1/35 model subject there is. It’s the Bf-109 or P-51 Mustang of the armor world.
Are you looking for pre-built? 1/35 scale? Complex and accurate or quick and easy? You name it, and for sure, every model company has one or several in their catalogues.
By the way, the color plate you saw should probably depict whitewash over a dark gray. There weren’t any whitewash over green Tigers.
Looking for a relatively simple out of the box assembly. The plate is looks green and I’m sure i’m not colour blind! I don’t have the book with me but the from what I recall the caption describes the tank as a Tiger IH from the Hitler Jugend Division, 1943/1944.
The problem with color plates is that they are notoriously inaccurate. I’m not doubting what you have in front of you. However, I 100% question what the artist and or captioner did to present a Tiger I with 12SS PD Hitler Jugend. At no time in their existence did they field the Tiger I. Also, Tigers, when first produced, were painted dunkelgrau or dark grey. In early 43, the order was given for all equipment to leave the factory in dunkelgelb or dark yellow (more tan than yellow actually). Onto this dark green and red-brown were also applied to add more camouflage.
The only possible (and it’s still debated) green basecoated Tigers were some that were sent to Tunisia back in early '43. All the rest were either dk grey or dk yellow.
Again, the Tiger I is probably one of the most discussed and researched vehicles ever and IS the single most popular subject in 1/35.
Hope you find this helpful.

By way of most simplest build yet a good value in terms of accuracy, I would recommend the Tamiya Early Production Tiger I (kit 35216). It assembles very well, comes with good vinyl tracks, and is readily available.
There are others but they tend to be very complex and accurate (DML, AFV Club) or cheap and inaccurate (Italeri & Academy).
Tamiya’s 35216 gives you options for early production tanks, in either color and on several fronts. If you’re hoping for Normandy or late war, then go with the other Tamiya Tigers (mid production or Late production) kits. However, those have individual links and require zimmerit to be added to be correct – herefore, become a little more complex.

(of course there’s always the 1/48 Skybow kits which are TERRIFFIC!)
