It’s my pleasure to introduce a new page today. While new pages usually show several armors, this page shows only one. This one.
Tamiya’s Tiger I Late Version with FriulModel’s metal tracks - by “Toom” (Art Instructor’s big brother):

“Toom” also built a warplane and a warship in this new page:

Comments and suggestions are welcome!
A very ambitious work! A muddy Tiger with zimmerit and battle damage. Not bad at all. I would just suggest to Toom, more spalling effect on the impacts and less soot, but that is a personal taste. He tackled more techniques all together on this one kit than I have, and did well. I presume this is a 1/35 kit? What method did he use to make the zimmerit?
Not a bad assembly and paint job, but a few points.
- The Zimmerit’s a bit thick. You can get Zimmerit tools - Airwaves do one, so do Tamiya - which have scale-accurate spacing. I got a rather neat one with an AFV Club 1/48 Sturmtiger recently.
- the tow cables look a bit rusty. Tow cables are never rusty, but kept well-greased. Rusty tow cables tend to snap, and flying heavy-duty steel wire is dangerous. Plus, it’s no fun replacing them. Or fetching the tank out of the ditch where it fell when the tow cable snapped. Especially if you’re under fire at the time.
- Too much soot on the muzzle brake. Guns get cleaned after action.
- Shouldn’t the commander be wearing a black,or camouflage-pattern, uniform, not a field grey, one? Field grey Panzer-style uniforms were normally only worn by self-propelled gun and armoured car crews.
Cheers,
Chris.
Some PE screens would help it, and a darker wash to deepen the Zim might help. Otherwise, I love it!
Thanks so much for all kind comments and suggestions! I really appreciate them! Sorry that it took so long for me to reply. I’ve been kinda busy lately. I agree that the Zimmerit was a bit thick, I think “Toom” didn’t have the Zimmerit tool so he used a screwdriver instead. I once bought the tool from Tamiya but gave it to “AI” long time ago.
