Tiger Camo Question

Hello,

Can anyone give me som input as to the base color and camo pattern that this machine may have had. I have stared at this and the other pics I have for hours trying to make sense of the possible color schemes and to no avail. Your opinions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Also the pic in my sig.

the base color looks too light to be Panzer gray, so it must be dark yellow. I have no iddea on the camo though.

Ted I too would say dark yellow and possibly olive green.Digger

Here are some more shots:

I agree that a yellow base coat is called for. There was someone on another forum that said it had a cloud pattern with green. I just can’t tell.

Ted

which unit is it from? Im looking Panzer colors and I found A vehicle that could be the brother of this one.

ok, found it. The book qoutes, “seen in late summer of 1943, this tiger I of sPzAbt 502 shows the typical appearance of the units vehicles. The overall color is dark yello and the turrent Numbers are black…”

This tank looks exactly like the one you posted but could still be different. But Judging from your pics and mine, id have to say its the same vehicle. It even has the 2 helmets hanging on the spare tracks.

Rebel, It is from the 502, is there a chance you could scan that in for me? I was planning on painting my wheels soon and just want to get it correct,

Thanks,

Ted

sure no problem. I’ll get on it right away.

Very cool

Thanks,

Ted

just click on the pic and it will enlarge.

Rebel,

That is my tank. If you look closely, you will see the 312. So it’s just a dark yellow paint job. That simplifies things!!

Thanks,

Ted

Which book is this from? I need to get it.

Thanks again,

Ted

yep, just simple dark yellow.

The pic is from Panzer Colors # III By Bruce Culver.
I bought them with some money I got for christmas. They came in a pack of 3. Each one has different stuff. For example #3 has alot of tiger pics and tiger battalions. #2 has alot on the luftwaffe feild divisions and tactical markings. And #1 has a whole buch of info on captured and camoflaged armor. I highly recommend it![^]
I think it cost around $40 to $50.

Thanks again, that really helped me out.

Ted

my pleasure!

theres another photo of it in Tankpower Tiger vol 1 looking from the left rear to the front and theres a colour plate of 311 and its yellow base with green camo

That color plate with the green is what threw me off. (I believe it was from Tiger’s in Action or the Osprey Book on Tigers)

Ted

if this is aimed at my colour plate, its from Tankpower Tiger vol 1and none of the above
there are also photos of it in Germanys tiger tanks D W to Tiger 1

Otto Carius Tiger was just the base yellow, with those photos that too looks like its the base colour only

tank# 312 was dark yellow, its sister tanks strangely enuff were dark yellow with olive green squggilies line pattern camo tank # 311and 313, kinda strange buthey its german, this coming from the samebook as rebel and one other book I have dont know the name the first 5 pages including the cover is gone, got it at a garage sale for .50 cents.

The green squigglies were applied later on in the summer of '43. Judging by the almost perfect condition of the side skirts, these shots were taken shortly after these machines were issued. There are only a few small dents in the exhaust shrouds and a bullet hole in the storage bin, the rest of the discoloration is probably dirt, dust, fuel spills, etc.
