I recently bought the Tamiya Tiger 1 Ausf. e SD.KFZ.181. I was wondering does any know if it had steel wheels or the rubber rimmed ones?
I only found out there was a difference when I was looking at an internet book shop and came across- ‘Steel wheeled Tiger 1’ by Angus Creighton.
Thanks to all that reply.[;)]
As far as I know, Tamiya never has any Tiger with the words “Steel-wheeled version” on the box. Unlike its Panther which it has both Panther Type G and Panther Type G “Steel-wheeled version” (the latter is more expensive even though it’s plastic, not steel). Therefore, for your question, the answer is rubber rimmed ones.
Not exactly. Actually, both were produced. The early and mid-production models had rubber tires. There was a “late” variant that did have steel wheels, although only produced in small quantities, shortly before it was replaced by the Tiger II.
Well, both may be produced by the Germans. But I was talking about Tamiya’s!
Colin, here is a web site that I found that you may find usefull. www.panzer-vi.fsnet.co.uk/ This site is devoted to German hardware. I do not know the answer to the question. You may try finding a German based site and asking them.[?]
I checked squadron and the tiger you ordered is the steel wheeled variety. It’s a great model so enjoy it. Good luck ,Bill
