Tiger 1 help

I have an 1:35 Italery Tiger 1 Ausf. E/ H1. Would that be early mid or late prod? I looked on the directions and the box and it dosent say.

thanks, Levi

I can hook you up. What you got their blitzer is an initial production tiger, which was a specially modified tiger 1 early (modified front mudflaps and square exaust shrouds in the back). It was a spin off of the early, but the modifications were unit done, at least thats what I’ve heard. Initial production tigers were used in the desert, which was North Africa under Rommel’s Afrika Korps. Hope it helps…

Here’s a link of what exactly a finished tamiya initial production looks like.

Also forgot to mention: Not only are the front mudflaps and the exaust shrouds modified, the rear mudgaurds are also modified. Theres probably more fine detailed things that were modified on the initial, but thats for rivet counters… Good luck![:D]

hey…thanks alot. that really helped me out.

also was that type of tiger only used in the african theater?

To my knowlegde, yes, I’ve only seen those used in North Africa with the Afrika Korps. So simple sheet styrene modifications could make it look like a “stock” early from henschel though. Good luck!

No they were also used by Schwere Panzerabteilung 503 in the Leningrad area. Also the Initial production had 2 pistol ports on the turret and no escape hatch.

thanks

Keep in mind Monrad’s biased to the 503, [;)] You can build this into the 501st as well. They had the really cool crouching tiger insignia, the elongated Balkenkruez and also can be painted in the unusual Olive green.

was there any camo schemes on it? I just got my new air brush and i would like to try it out on this tiger.

No. In Africa it would have been yellow, well Bovington have painted theirs in a 2 tone scheme, but I don’t know if that is correct. In Russia they were grey.

And ausf ! Yes I am a 503 fan. But so will you be when you have finished the 503 book muahahaha [}:)][}:)]

Yes, As time passed by they were given low key camo jobs Just like the one at bovington. It was colors that did not stick out as much like the later versions.

thank you all…what about bonvington?
