Tiffie's ready for a coat of paint (Camouflage painted, 9-20 NEW PICS)

Looks really good!

Nice job on the camo. Color always brings the model more to life. Thanks for sharing.

Regards, Rick

once again great paint job pix. Jason

how did you do the edges ? freehand or stencils ?

hmm I’m gonna have to look into getting that kit… always loved the Typhoon… and seeing it done up good like this gives me the itch…

[#ditto] to all above Pix-- I really enjoy your builds–especially when they come alive after your airbrush goes to work!!

I have started to wait to reply Pix so I can see a few updates. I like the Ty, shes beautiful. Now finish it (no pressure tho [;)])

Thanks dj, Rick, jay, reggie, tho9900, Jeeves, & woodbeck !

reggie - I first painted the underside RAF Medium Sea Gray, and masked it with drafting tape. The topside colors are freehand. I started with the Ocean Gray areas. I outlined it with an airbrushed line about the width of a panel line, about 1/4" away from the model. After it was outlined, I pulled the airbrush a little further away and filled it in. After all the Ocean Gray was painted, I did the RAF Dark Green the same way.

woodbeck - it will be finished in due time. I’ll apply the Future Wednesday, the decals Friday, Future sealer on Sunday, a wash on Tuesday, and a Dullcoat on Wednesday. Before I apply the decals, and after the first Future coat is cured, I’ll mask & spray the wing leadind edges for the yellow bands (covering the area in white first)

Thanks again !

lookin’ nice Bill, but didn’t the Brits use rubber matts to mask off there camo jobs? most British aircraft i’ve seen pics of have a really hard edge. again, great lookin’ build!! later.

Thanks saltydog !

The mats to which you refer were in early-war use on Spitfires & Hurricanes, from what I can gather. Period pics show sharp demarcations between colors.
I looked at a lot of wartime pics of Typhoons, and the lines are softer. Using a mask would have looked odd, to me. Here’s an example of an earlier, cardoor Typhoon. The softer edges are more apparent on the tail.

i guess i’ll let you slide this time Bill…[;)]LOL looks great, and thanks for the photo, it’ll come in handy when i decide to tackle one. later.

Bill, you’re coming right along on that hot airplane! [;)] It’s going to look so good, thanks for the update pictures!!

Take care, [:)]
Frank

Thanks Frank ! I’ve got some decals for something a little different. Stay tuned. [;)]

saltydog - I’ve got quite a few useful Tiffie pics, including a B&W wartime cockpit photo, and color cockpit pics of a Tempest (layout is nearly identical) during restoration. Let me know when you might need 'em.

Looks like another winner Bill…keep the photos coming!

Happy Modeling!

Joe Youngerman

Thanks Joe ! I hope to have more progress pics this weekend.
