tie down rope for armor

i was wondering what everyone uses to simulate tie down rope on the back of armor, if they wanted to tie down boxes or crates or anything like that. i was thinking simple thread but it looks incredibly thin, then i wasnt sure and i was wondering what you guys use for that. - Chris

try the cotton thread you can find in the shipbuilding accessorys… it comes in several sizes and if you weather it with pastels and wear it a bit I think it looks like a good sized hemp rope…

this rope was .15mm … didn’t come out too bad for a first try…

I found nylon rope to be a very useful item. On its own, it makes pretty good towing cables, and you can unravel it into its smaller components to make good tiedown rope.

Good quality ship builders rigging thread is best. Try to get quality stuff, as it does not go fluffy like some threads can. Cut a length and paint it with a clear varnish to stop the thread from fraying whilst you shape and tie it.

Try “button and carpet” thread. It’s considerably thicker than normal thread and requires only a little weathering. It doesn’t have a bunch of fuzz on it either. You can get it in many colors at any fabric store.[:)]

I bought a bag of #20 Hemp Rope from my local WalMart, look in the craft section. It looks great but is a little stiff, it’s a total of 180 feet bundled into about 6 individual sections for $3.25, enough to last a kit or two[8D]
And the best part it is made by a company called Camp Hoochie Coochee, hey I can’t make that up.

just an idea, maybe try burlap. if u have a hunting store in your area go there and you should be able to find it in the camo blind section. some stores have two types thick and thin. you will want the thin stuff. it actually looks just like hemp rope but woven in a blanket form.

I alos use the ship building rope. Works great.
