Here’s the latest pic of one of my current projects, Hasegawa’s 1/48 P-47D-25 Thunderbolt.
I haven’t been feeling well this week, so it took me a while to reach this stage.
The OD, very dark gray, and yellow areas were glosscoated while I primed the airframe with Future. I applied darkened washes of each color to their specific areas, then masked them off and Dullcoted (except the yellow on the nose). I then masked these flat areas, and the yellow nose, and sprayed Alcad II Aluminum, White Aluminum, Duraluminum, and Magnesium. This was later glosscoated with Future.
I also have all the other metallic items painted (engine, landing gear and doors, prop hub, etc.), so final assembly will go quickly once the decals are added and the washes applied.
Wow i dont know what to say Pix that looks awsome i like how did the acenting panels.I cant wait to see it done and i know you feel i was sick for a week and half and still dont have the energy to build anything.
Pix! Glad to see you’re still building quality stuff! That P-47 looks really great. I too have recently found the joys of alclad II. Holy moly! I know you’ll keep us posted on this one… i just love the thunderbolt!
lol when I first saw the topic of this post I thought it was about an A-10 Warthog… geez shows how obsessed I am with my upcoming projects (1/72 and 1/32 A-10 models). Anyway nice build! I agree with everyone else your natural metal finish is incredible keep up the good work! Also hope you feel better!
Sweet job with the Alclad Bill, I’m building a Hase. kit now. That’s not the kit cockpit is it? It seems to have a lot more detail. I’ve replaced mine with a resin pit. It looks like you handled the infamous lower wing gap well. Can’t wait to see finished pics.
Thanks smokinguns, wing_nut, yardbird, RadMax, DDRmaniac, Rick, Thad, Jerry, and Brian !
Jerry - I used a Teknics resin and PE cockpit that I’ve had for years. I don’t believe they’re in business any longer, but they made some very nice stuff. I wasn’t aware of an “infamous” gap. There was a small one at the rear, which I filled with CA. I never expect parts to fit exactly, so I’m never disappointed by a kit’s fit. When I cut my teeth building in the early 60s, no kit fit particularly well. The solution was Testor’s Contour Putty.
I’m almost finished with the decals, with just the (plethora of) stencils remaining. More pics Monday.
Wow, Pix. That is totally amazing. It is one of the best NMF I have seen in a long time. And you didn’t feel like building. I would love to see whsat it would look like if you were feeling good. [:)]
Hi there i΄m a new member in this from Greece and amateur modeler as weell!I’m enthousiastic with the effects of this Alclad II paint that you refered in this topic.Ive use only a Humbrol aluminium paint from the metallics on a Hasegawa’s 1/48 Mustang but the result was not as good as Alclad΄΄s.I just wandering i this is a paint that can anyone find in modelling stores,or is it a more special paint which can anyone find more difficult. And if the second where?
Mikedome - Alcad II paints are lacquer-based. I don’t know about their availability outside the U.S., but I get mine from http://www.squadron.com . They are a little pricey, at $7 US for a 1 oz. bottle (unsure of the metric equivalent). Many mail-order distributors here carry them, so check your area first. Shipping to Greece may be costly.
