Just thought I’d let you guys around the east coat know about the Atlantic City Airshow, in case you didn’t already know. It’s on Wednesday, August 20th. Tough being the middle of the week, but I always take the day off. Strange the way those little virus things hit you at wierd times. Don’t have all the info but the Thunderbirds, Golden Knights, 177th FW, N.J. ANG and a few aerobatics teams will be there. Best part is - It’s Free. Will positively take my camera.
Well I hope you “recover” quickly…And you better not forget the CAMERA! If we dont see pics on this site by the 22, we will report you to your boss!!..Harv
Well, you see, the thing is I am only working part time. That’s all an old coot like me can get these days. I usually work Monday to Thursday 5 hours a day. If I take off on Wednesday, I can go in on Friday and make up the time. A 24 hour virus won’t upset them as most of us working there make our own hours. Full retirement isn’t what it’s cracked up to be unless you were making 6 figures and socking away 5 of them all the years before you retired. On the bright side, while out running errands this afternoon, saw gas at $3.73.[:O] Almost had a heart attack.
I’ll see if I can find any pics from last year that are post worthy.
Don’t know about the B-17 being there Dirkpitt289 but I’m positive that there are no rides as none of the planes land on the beach. Most of them (military) would come from the air base. The rest would be at the A.C. Airport. This is strictly aerobatics and fly-bys at low altitude and I do mean lllllooooowwwww (and lllllooooouuuuuddddd).
Found a couple of pics from last years show. Please excuse my lousy photo taking ability. I’ll try to get better ones this year.
Don’t know how to explain the attitude of the one jet but he came down the entire beach in that attitude. The military lear jet made the pass at extremely low speed. Four P-51’s were there in formation then 2 of them did aerobatics. There were loads of aerobatic teams and many more military planes and choppers that I didn’t catch pics of as it all happens pretty fast and furious. The rest I think you guys know. Again sorry for the bad pics, but you get the idea of the show.
Dirk, the flyer I have doesn’t say anything about the airport. It just says bring your beach chairs and relax on the beach or the boardwalk while watching the show. We go down with the Senior Citizens bus to the casinos. We watch the show, get something to eat, and its time for the return trip. All the action is over the beach. I don’t know if you could see the show from the airport anyway. They do all the flybys in front of the casinos.
The Collings Foundation’s WW II Bombers B-17, B-24 & B-25 and P-51 Mustang will be at the NAS Wildwood Aviation Museum in Cape May on August 27,28 and 29. You can go inside the aircraft and out for a donation of $12. You can take a 30 minute flight aboard one of these aircraft, flights are a tax-deductible donation. B-17 & B-24 flights are $425 per person. Flights on the B-25 are $400 for front fuselage and $325 for the waist gun section of the plane. Flights for the P-51 Mustang are $2,200 for a 30 minute flight and $3,200 for a full hour flight. Check out the web sites for the http://www.collingsfoundation.org/ and www.usnasw.org I took a flight on the B-17 Nine-O-Nine last year and it was unbelievable. [tup]
Wish I could get to go. I’m off work but have to have a little proceedure done on the same day[BH][xx(] Have fun, take a lot of pics, and share with us on here. That weekend thing may be doable though Hmmmmm…
Hi guys. We usually go down on the senior citizens bus to the casinos. They get there about 10:30 - 11:00. I’d say get there before 10:30. Last year we got held up in traffic and watched some of the aerobatic guys doing their stuff as we were still a ways out of town. You just bring your beach chair and park it wherever you find a nice spot. They haven’t told us what casino is giving the best deal for the trip yet so I can’t say just what casino I’ll be parked in front of. If I find out in time, I’ll let you know and just maybe we can get to meet.
Won’t know where I’ll be untill Wednesday morning. If you see an old guy with a U.S.S. Enterprise cap and a street rod T-shirt with a 3 window coupe and a sedan on it, that’ll probably be me (unless I have a twin that I don’t know about). Hope to see you there.
[#ditto] wing_nut. It was a great show (what we saw of it). Bus was late. Made an extra pick-up. Didn’t get to the WW bridge until 10:00. Got to AC @11:45. Will NEVER take the bus again. Put us down at the Showboat. The planes came at us very fast. Sometime they came around the Showboat so fast we couldn’t get a shot as they were past us before we knew they were there.
Enough of that. WOW. Great Show.[tup] When we were leaving the boardwalk at 5:00, 5 old WWII planes came over the beach in a V formation. Didn’t see them in the show. Did you? Couldn’t tell what they were. One was all red. One was red and white. Don’t remember the others. Thought one of them looked like a Jug.
My wife and I took a lot of pics. Hope they turned out. The sun was so bright that sometimes I couldn’t tell if the camera was on or not. My wife is looking at them on her computer and cropping them if necessary. Will try to get them on tonight, but, if not then tomorrow night.
Jim, Thanks for posting the pics. I did get to see the blurb on the news about it from my hospital bed. [xx(] Looked like a great time. I’m trying to get to Cape May to see the Wings of Freedom Tour next thursday[:D] I couldn’t make it to Lancaster today to see them.
Medic 18 - Hope everything went OK with your little procedure. I got a slight case of sunburn on my face from looking up into the sun to see the planes and take the pictures. Seems I put lotion on all exposed parts except my face. Thought cap would protect me.[sigh]
