THunder Bolt Done (pics)

Ok guys i need your opinion on this one. This is a first time doing panel lines and want to find out what iam doing or if iam doing it rifgt i used soft pastel chalks with water and soap and sprayed the entier A/C with future i think it could have come out better. So let me know.

Looks good nice job on the weathering.

looks really good! the weathering is great! keep up the good work!-Dj

The weathering looks nice, especially on the underside of the aircraft.

I’d say it looks quite nice, very realistic. Is that the Academy 1/72 kit?

Joshua

Nah, look at his hand in that first couple of pics. More like 1/48.

Looks good! I like Jugs in this scheme and you have done a realistic job. Well done! Darren.

Mate,
For the first time doing panel lines it came out pretty well - seems to be just about the right amount of weathering - not too much, not too little. Came out looking fairly realistic. Nicely done.
You’re on the right track, so keep doing what you’re doing - and remember, the next one you do will be a little better than the last one. Any articles in FSM on weathering (and there are many) are always a good thing to read and learn from.
Remember, exhaust staining and discoloration did get rather extensive on some of these beasts - oil leaks and fluid spills…and if a radial engine wasn’t leaking oil, that meant that the oil level was low and it needed topping up.
Is it my eyes, or is the port gear leg canted inboard a little - and the starboard landing light seems to sit proud of the wing planform.
Nice job on the base - the grass looks good, too.

Well i can never seem to get the gear perfict as for the lite was hoping no one would notice the workshop floor monster got the lite and had to use the the other one that came with the kit. and thank you all for thr fine comments. it makes me feel all warm inside[:D]

Came out well for your first attempt. The underside is better than the top side. A little blotching in spots, but overall pretty nice. Next one will come out even better as you refine your techniques. Thanks for sharing.

Regards, Rick

Nicely done. Did you scratch build the gun bays? I think you nailed the panel lines!

I’m just about finished my Jug and lost the port side light. I scratchbuilt mine out of clear sprue. I ended up having to repaint the wing tip and wrecked the decals on the left wing. Now I’m waiting for the replacements before I can post pics… [:(]

Smokinguns3,

Very pretty bird!!! The whole package looks really nice, overall I’d give her a 9 out of 10. Looks like you have the same trouble I do with washes, that dadgummed halo effect. I’ve tried everything I can think of and still can’t figure out the trick. Althought the ground pastels in soapy water is a new one I’d not heard of, I’ll be trying that on my next bird for sure.

I use very fine sandpaper alot for cleaning up “happy accidents” 800,1000,1500 and 2000 grit. It’s sold at automotive paint stores and lasts forever. Maybe that could be used for removing that halo by very lightly sanding I’m not sure I’d like to try it on one of my birds first before saying it’s a tried and true method.

Again, she’s really pretty. Very well built, I’d be proud to have her as a first attempt at doing panel lines.

The panel lines look very nice. Strong enough to be noticeable, but not overpowering. IMHO, a wash to “dirty up” the landing gear bays would be beneficial.

What a truly fantastic build. The weathering is sublty nice. Which paints/colors did you choose for the exterior?

just model masters enamels olive drab and light grey.

I forgot about this thred and no Bgrigg they came with the kit, I like Academys kits mostly 1/48 ive had problems with there big 1/72 birds though.

Looks good to me, I have not tried pastel dust on mine yet, but I will, I get the same “bleed” in spots using acrylics thinned about 60-70% with water, but I have found a fairly stiff bristled, dry brush cleans the surface pretty well without taking it all out of the panel line. Works pretty well with raised lines/rivets too. All in all, your weathering is excellent, not overpowering, just subtly enhancing the panel lines! Bravo!
