Thread resurection- innovative or annoying as hell ?

My honest feelings are the threads and posts that bemoan resurrected threads are more annoying than the resurrected threads themselves…

Aaron,

I understand that as an employee you are required to spin the party line to the masses.

Don’t you think that FSM’s brand of Kool Aid is a bit dated?

The world isn’t all kittens and sunshine and this isn’t the 1950’s anymore Ward.

Why do I get this feeling that this thread’s about to go south?

Here we go again…

I’m getting that feeling too mustang.

Old Goat,

If requesting that everybody treat each other with respect is dated, then call us old-fashioned. There’s enough bile on the Internet to go around and we don’t want it on the Forum. We like to see this place as akin to a club meeting and we’d like to keep it that way. I believe that most of the members, old and new, appreciate the friendly, helpful atmosphere. If I’m wrong, let me know.

Regards, Aaron

You’re talking apples and oranges. I didn’t suggest that we create a non friendly forum.

I suggested your pollyanna approach is annoying.

Please delete my account as this is an annoying place and I am not ready for this brand of nonsense.

It was the name calling/ condescending approach that was used that he was referring to chief. That kind of stuff makes any valid point we try to make at mute one. Granted you do make good points but it’s all in the delivery dude.

I am not going to apologize for the way the Forum is moderated and run.

Regards, Aaron

Bravo, Aaron.

In the first place, FSM owns this Forum and has the right to run it however it thinks fit. I admit I sometimes disagree mildly with certain Forum policies. (How come the word “hell,” as in the title of this post, doesn’t get bleeped, but the title of Melville’s Moby Dick does?) But it’s not my Forum, and I’ve got more important things to worry about than defending Herman Melville.

Secondly, I see nothing wrong with bringing up an old thread. One of the great things about this Forum is the tremendous volume of information it contains. To somehow stop people from adding to that data base would be a big mistake. And, as has been pointed out already, if you don’t like a post nobody’s forcing you to read it.

In the sixty years that I’ve been building models, and the thirteen years that I’ve been participating in the Forum, it’s occurred to me many times that a lot of people (probably including me) use their hobbies to compensate for holes in their personal and professional lives. I like my hobby because it doesn’t have any deadlines, and because my models don’t have to come up to anybody else’s standards. I think people who lack any other outlet for expressing their aggravation with The World As We Know It sometimes use their hobbies for the purpose.

One tiny disagreement I have with Aaron: I don’t want the FSM Forum to be like some of the model club meetings I’ve attended (or heard about). The club I’m in now is great, but some of the most childish, discourteous, and downright stupid behavior I’ve ever heard of has taken place at model club meetings.

Nor do you need to apologize, Aaron, the Forum is a great place to visit daily. So much valuable information about all things related to model building, new products and reviews of those products, tools, techniques, etc.

Considerable posts from members like GMorrison, about things and people from the past, like the recent post about the “silver cup.” I would not have known that, if not for Bill to take the time to post it, greatly appreciated.

Essentially I look at the post heading to see if it is of interest to me, and have now taken the habit to look at the post date. If way old I just move on, easy enough to do.

I’d rate the Forum as a solid 99 out of 100, the only negative issue for me is the ocassional unpleasant/hostile language, with somewhat insulting remarks that can become personally directed. I can’t think of any benefit, to anyone, when that happens.

Thanks, FSM and the Forums, I’m enjoying it.

Patrick

Arron,

Of all the forums I visit or are a part of, FSM’s is one on the top IMO. Occasionally a thread goes astray but it is typically handled in due time.
I appreciate greatly FSM allowing us to meet, discuss and sometimes disagree without over controlling moderating like some forums. I consider the FSM form to be my home forum.

Steve

PS I do wish the spellcheck can be fixed someday. Just sayin.

I’ll echo that one as well as the fact that I get along with alot of folks here and thus, enjoy visiting here.

Who resurrected this thread?

Awww hell…I did it.

to zombie or not to zombie I just hang around awhile lol

Guys,

I reckon this thread has run its course and before it get completely sidetracked, I’m locking it. Thanks to all who voiced their opinion.

Cheers, Aaron
