Well as it says I am working on a model of THOR, and it is my first figure. It is a Marval Comics Character. A neighbor has had it forupwards of 5 years and has a kid and has never been able to put it together. Upon finding out I build models, he asked if I would like to put it together, and I said I’d never done a figure before and would be glad to build it up for him.Awefully bright colors. He said I didn’t havre to do any painting because it was all in color, but I explained you gotta paint it, if you want it to look good. Well, So far I’ve gotten a few pieces glued together, mostly just the halfs of the parts. I do however have the left leg glued to the torso assembly. Interstingly enough the Torso didn’t need much work, even if the engraving is a bit shallow. I deepened some lines mostly around the belt to make it look seperate. The fit of the kit is rather pathetic in my opinion. I mostly build car models but if I had a car that fit this poorly I’d take it back and get my money back. I said I’d build it though and thats what I am going to do. The lower half of the right leg is going to have to be filled in with putty and resculpted. Using quitew a bit of Sqaudrin Green here. I do however have the face all painted up and thought y’allmight enjoy a peek at it. I’ll post more pics as I get things done. This really shouldn’t take me long to build as I am using a mix of superglue and styrene glue. Found it makles the joints SUPERSTRONG, and they dry quick, also using acrylic testors paints. I mixed the 3 flesh tones myself, from what I remember of an article YEARS ago in Scale Auto, and the rsults are quite nice I think, anyway here is the face painting done.

I’m so used to doing cars this thing is a pain especially with such a horrid fit, requiring about a 1/4 tube of Squadrin already. Are all figures this bad? If so I’m not so sure I want to do another one. It’s tough trying to get in and sand some of those area’s, I don’t know how to get into some of them. My $$$ is nil right this moment and will be for a short while(college student out of work) so I gotta come up with inventive things.

Most plastic figs always need alot of work to look good but resin and vinyl figs are not so bad most of the time.Maybe try one of those if still interisted in figs after the God of Thunder there.
Well I doubt I’ll mess with resin just too pricey, although I’ve seen vinyl here and there that isn’t so bad, but for the most part the ones I have seen the accuracy of the details looks pretty bad. For the most part on those that I have seen I’d be interested in Star Trek Characters and they seldom look like the character they represent. Maybe later tihs year I’ll order some WW2 figures or something through mail order in the mag. I also get to try my hand at shipbuilding, I need to build a REALY nice titanic for my fiance, and I want a U.S.S. Oregon for myself. Have a local place where I can get the photoetched details, just they don’t have the railings.
Yep they can get pricy but often times they’re worth a few extra bucks.Most of the times I’ll just take off the detail that I dont like and scratchbuild my own parts to replace them with. I’ll also take a good look at them before buying.I’ll useally ask if I can open up the packaging and look at a resin kit before buying it.Most times shop owners are cool with it,sometimes not.
In the latest Amazing Figure Modeler I’ve seen some replacment heads in 1/6 scale of Kirk and Spock.They look a whole lot better than any kit heads.I dont have the mag here with me but when I get home I’ll look it up and see if there’s a website I can get for you.

Sorry to revive such an old thread but this figure is not done. Unfortunately I ended up losing pretty much all of it during a couple of moves. So I recently picked up a repalcement on ebay for 6 bucks. I picked up the replacement seeing as how the figure was not mine and I was building it for a friend, who has zero experience building models. He also is short on cash so building it as a favor and to gain experience. I would love to find a Predator figure to build. Especially the head, with and without mask. Most of the ones I see are 60-400 dollars or more. I wouldn’t mind painting up a few figures or busts. Busts I would like would be old Military generals. Robert E. Lee, Nathan Bedford Forest, Custer, or any other famous old generals, either north or south doesn’t matter. Allied or Axis. Also some full body figures. Something much larger then the 1:35 scale ones I always see. Those preferably fantasy. Mostly women, but others will work as well. Also price has to be fairly low, as I am on a limited budget. Also does anyone know if there are nude female figuers around 120mm or taller, that I can add actual clothing to, instead of just painting the clothing? Or any combination thereof nude and clothed. I will post some pics when I actually get some more work done on this bugger. At least this time I have more tools to work with.
The guy I am building it for says Thor is Blonde. Thor is one of the God’s of his religion and he wants him Blonde so who am I to argue? So far so good on the new build. I did alot more pre-glue filing so I managed to get the fit a little better. Still lots of filing,sanding, filling, and more sanding though. Someone would do well to build this up, and then cast a new fig out of resin. the negraving and such is really nice, just the fit lord it’s horrid.
Hi Michael…Understandable, but you might want to clue the guy in that Thor most DEFINITELY had RED HAIR. I should know-I’m a redhead, and have taken more than a bit of ribbing for it, as I’m interested in Germanic Mythology as well.
I mean, this guy might’ve just misidentified a photo or painting of him, ya know? He might be real appreciative that you did the research for him. I’m sure he’ll appreciate it when his friends remark on it? I mean, it’s your call, I just know that most guys on this site strive for accuracy, and all the more if you’re building it for someone…[:-^]

He decided to go ahead and go with the red hair. I just kinda mixed a reddish orange color. Never done redhead before. Looks ok for a semi-cartooney figure.
Might I make a suggestion? I made this for my girlfriend–it’s a white metal Pegasus, in a display case I picked up at my LHS; I pasted the picture (from a fantasy-art calendar) on the rear wall, and the clouds are airbrushed cotton balls. Might be cool to depict the God of Thunder “in his element”?
