OMG…After looking at the picture I just posted, and the one from the Readers Gallery…That’s the same Darn Decal…I wonder if the guy that did it took the Tamiya Decal and put it on his ICM Kit? (I think that’s the ICM kit)
Note blaming the builder how would he know…just think it’s funny that tamiya jacked it up, and possibly ICM unless the builder took it from a tamiya kit…
Have to say this is quite the teapot tempest…it’s one thing if the guy handpainted it and screwed it up but it’s clearly a decal. How many of us truly research every little thing like this, especially when not in our native language, before applying to the kit? Slam the kit if you want for the silvering on the decal, but to say it’s shameful/saddening because the Russian lettering is wrong? That’s hardly the builder’s fault (or FSM’s for publishing it). It’s a case of no one knows there’s a flaw unless pointed out…but even knowing that the wording/lettering/grammar isn’t right so what? It’s still a nice looking build of a rare subject that can be appreciated as is.
it looks to me like a decal so i wouldnt automaticlly mlame it on the modler. also, its more for effect then accuracy. sometimes ill add a detail, like a tarp or something, that i no isnt historically accurate, but it adds a sense of relism and gives character to the model. so to the guy who built it, respek.
I’m pretty sure that’s the ICM kit. ( I have it) And those are kit supplied decals. I think somewhere in the instructions or on the box, there is a translation. It’s suppose to mean “For Mother Russia”, or something like that.
I think the lesson learned here is if you’re using decals worded in a foreign language and you’re going for accuracy, get the decal translated…otherwise make sure you include a disclaimer. [;)]
Disclaimer: The decal is OOB & I have no clue what it actually means. [;)]
Isn’t it true that the Soviet army used tankers from all parts of the Soviet Union?. I know there are different dialects from east to west. Suppose this tank was crewed by a Mongol or a Siberian who was illiterate or sub literate in the mother tongue and tried his best to paint a patriotic slogan on his turret? So Ivan mispelled, maybe it is historically accurate.
What would happen if there was Real photo of that tank turn up and it had the very same thing on the side
would that make you want to moan about the crew instead
Well for me it seems to be a bit over the top to blame the builder. There are alot of guys like me that Use what ever decals come in the box cause I just can’t see spending the cash on AM ones. Plus, looking at how the decal is a bit silvered would say to me that it was a builder that did not have years of experience under the belt and is probally pretty darn happy right now that his build is being featured.
Seems to me to be pretty harsh to jsut say if you don’t know what it means then don’t do it , as long as he is happy with the build then fine with me.
I also speak russian and if you have any question about any of the marking in russian, you can just ask me.
Because I always laugh at those models with wrong markings!
Being a Hebrew speaker, I notice that whilst usually decals are correct, sometimes they are wrong. Worse though, sometimes the letters are not even Hebrew! If one spots an error though, should one point it out, or just ignore it?
Personally I would ignore it.
In fact I still have a project going (actually on hold) that will contain some of those errors, and this is one for Osher, it’s a dio, set in Ramallah, so I need to use roadsign and so in Hebrew, as I don’t even recognise the letter, I’m sure I’ll more than just make a little error.
It is very well possible that I will place sign that don’t make sence at all.
But frankly, I don’t care, most people (where I live) won’t be able to read them anyway.
I would say pointing it out is a good thing to do if nothing else to let some else that is planning on building the kit know about it. As long as you don’t go off on the builder about how they should have known better and such.
If the guy is building an exact replica then I can see all the uproar and the old adage about finding phot’o’s to back up what you build.
If its oob then hey he used what he had had a great time building it , so we should not criticise.
Strange to see that the Tamiya decal is the same thing.
As far as the kit goes, as my knowledge serves me the only T-35 injection styrene kit made was by ICM. THere was a cheap knockoff using the same moulds made by another three-letter company, but the name escapes me. Alanger now sells the series of kits. Not sure whether they actually got the moulds, or whether they just got hold of unsold stock and reboxed it, but mine still has all the ICM brandings on the sprues, so I think the alanger ones are just reboxes.
I am glad there are modellers who “want to get it right” and are intense about the pursuit of purity in modelling. But I am also glad there are guys and gals out there that just enjoy a build and for them, I feel sorry when we begin tearing into the details “for them.”
I guess, being a ‘snaptight’ member, I should keep my mouth shut but I agree with some of the previous posts that question is it so inconcievable that something could have been so poorly written on a tank in WWII? I mean, check out some of the typos, misspelling and poor grammar in some of our posts!!! Personally, I was shocked reading through this at how well some of you write in English when you live in countries that speak other languages. I am completely illiterate outside of the English language and will certainly balk at ever putting any foreign lettering on a model in the future that I might display for fear getting it wrong.
To those of you who get the details right, I salute you!!! You are amazing to me and I am in awe of you. To those of you who build as a distraction and hobby, not a consuming passion I also applaud you and urge you to have fun!!

Accuracy is all well and good, but I simply don’t understand anyone being offended by a misspelled (misspelt?) or improperly conjugated word. Pointing out mistakes is fine with me, too…I personally would want to know, because I like to get things right.
No sadness, though…heck, it’s just a model!! [;)] (Ducks rotten tomatoes)
