The annual has been due on this for a while so Friday it was decided to get it done. The owner was kind enough to let me take pics while the inspection was going on and I took 65. Today I took a few more as we got it back together and tomorrow I’ll take some more, as it gets test flown in the morning. Going to be a cold ride!
This is an AT-6 converted to an NA-50 configuration. Nevermind the messy shop. There are two planes, three cars, two boats and a tractor in here plus all the tools and hardware to work on them all.
This PW R-1340 makes 800hp on 110 avgas at 40 inhg. The owner never runs it that high though, prefering to stay around 32, about 600 hp. Nope, she ain’t original anymore!
The wings are shortened six feet which makes the landings a bit hairy sometimes. Ninety is a comfortable over the fence speed and she stops flying at 80.
Not a lot of interior green left in this one but looking close will still find some traces of it.
All in all it was a good experiance. I was shocked to learn that a warbird lived nearly in my own back yard and even more shocked that a good friend of mine is a good friend of the owner. The owner is a good guy who was more than happy to have my help with the project this weekend, without which his flight to his summer home would most likely have been delayed. I was tickled to get the pics for reference and giddy about working on the plane. And will be freeking wired about tomorrows ride!
