The motorization of the Ju 290Z has gone more or less smoothly. I was only halted on the last engine for lack of parts (waiting for replacements). But seven motors are in, and I got pics to prove it-
The motors sound a little whiney (is that a word?) without prop blades, but once the’re on it drops in pitch a bit, so with seven of them going it sounds remarkably like litte areo engines! [:D] It’s a bit freaky, actually…
That is mind-blowing. You’re going to have to take the bed out of the guest bedroom and dedicate it to the display of this model. If the in-laws come tell them they’ll have to stay at the holiday in express. Truly awesome. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, guys. The model is 1/72, but it’s still pretty big. I’m just waiting on a few key things, like the prop parts, then I can easily finish it. Once engine No. 8 is in, it’s all downhill from there!
Mike, awesome job! Did ya ever find the 1/72 swasticas for that thing? If not, I got some that should work. Let me know if they’re solid, outlines or white-bordered. - Calvin
P.S. I got a Technics (?) sheet w/ plenty on them!

Make sure you build little chocks and scale chains & concrete blocks for the 1st time you fire up those motors"
Thanks again, everybody. I’m definitely going to have to make some chocks for it, but that’s last priority.
yardbird78- Nope, this was a straighforward paper project. It was designed, but was passed over in favor of the (comparitively) less radical Ju 390.
lodni_k- No luck yet on swastikas. Drop me an e-mail and I can give you more specifics.
The props aren’t on permanently, yet. Those are stuck on right now with some modeling clay stuffed in the holes in the props. But, sometimes that’s not enough. I think right now I’ve busted about seven prop blades from at least five of the propellors. Thankfully I’ve been able to find them each time, and superglue them back on. Still, it was a bit iffy if I would have the guts to pull this photo off. All those props, spinning unattended while I got the camera around… It was a slight nail-biter incident.
Thanks again for all the feedback. I appreciate it. [:D][tup]
This isn’t provided as a kit, or unfortunately even as a conversion. It’s a simple (well… kinda) scratchbuild using two Revell Germany Ju 290 kits. Each is about $30, so about $60 went into the kits. The Me 328 (not shown) was a bit extra, about $5. There’s also underwing ordinance (also not shown) that was about $10. The electric motor added more, probably about $15. If you go without all the extras, you can easily build this kit for under $80.
You’ve probably already passed on this info, but I missed it. Can you tell me what you used for the motor(s) to spin the props? Where I can find them? I’d like to do this on some 1/48 planes.
