thinning squadron putty

Hi Guys, I would like to know what to use to thin down squardon putty, to a paste consistancy so that I may brush it on. Also, is there any water based puttys(or pastes) on the market? thanks!!

You can thin Squadron putties with liquid cement (eg. Testors), acetone or lacquer thinners, though the latter option means it takes a little longer to dry. When thinned, apply in very thin layers to minimise damaging or softening the underlying styrene.

Generally, you won’t find any “solvent” based putties which are compatible with water. Some of the epoxy based products (eg. Milliput) can, to an extent, be smoothed with small quantities of water.

Lacquer thinner works for me on Squadron Green. Haven’t tried it on the white.

Squadron Putty green or white can also be thinned with nail polish remover. Nail Polish remover contains acetone already and works extreamly well for thinning Squadron Putty into a thin paste for easy application. I used the cheap dollar store brand nail polish removers for thinning mine and have never had any problems.

Give it a try.
