Thinning out

What is the best type of solvents to use to thin out the enamel paints? I dont know if any of you know this vocab…but i use a mixure of xylol and mek.

personally, for airbrushing I use testors thinner for brushing and washes I use terps

Xylol and MEK is a pretty hot mixture that would effectively thin any enamel known to man. It would make a pretty good plastic cement, too.
I use laquer thinner both for thinning enamels and airbrush cleaning

hot mixture? sounds like rocket fuel! Personally I’ve used white spirit or turps for years, It’s very cheap, available at any hardware store & it works for me.

My favorite is Floquil thinner, second best is Model Master Airbrush thinner.

I use laquer thinner with good results. I also have some Dupont enamel reducer that comes in handy too. It evaporates very quickly, so it’s nice when I want the paint to dry a little quicker.

Isn’t it “best” to use dedicated thinners for specific brands?

It’s certainly “best” for the manufacturers. I can buy a gallon of laquer thinner
for about the same price as a half pint of a specific brand thinner.

Dedicated! Lets just remember dat sales are made by making ppl believe they need sumthin, not weather they do actually need it.
In Australia, i pay about 12$ for one of those little testor airbrush thinners. So i went to the auto store and bought 4 liters for 10$, And it works just fine. Makesmy life a hell of a lot easier.[:D]
