Thinning and masking Floquil

Hi Gang!

I want to paint my 1/72 P-51 by airbrushing Floquil’s “Old Silver”. I’ve never used Floquil before but I picked up a bottle because I heard it was supposed to be pretty good. Do I just use mineral spirits to thin it for airbrushing? How does it hold up to masking?

Thank you!

Eric

Have used Old Silver many many times and also Floquil Platinum Mist and Bright Silver. A great product depending on what look you want to achieve. When dry it is hard as all get out. Takes tape beautifully as does not lift. After dry you can clear coat which changes the hue slightly. You can also rub in some SNJ aluminum powder which changes the color . The more you rub in the more the change. I personally stick with the Floquil brand of thinner so I cant comment on the effects of other solvents. Take a chance if you want or maybe some other forum participants can advise you. Good luck.

You should be able to airbrush fresh Floquil right from the bottle. Rather strong smell, though. Keep the pressure down and the brush close to the subject to reduce the excess fumes.
