Squadron (squadron.com) has the Tamiya 1/350 Destroyer for < $30.00 and a detail set for 15.00. I’ve never built this kit but would like to try it. You may need small drills for opening portholes Etc.
I agree the Tamiya 1/350 Fletcher is a good choice and several manufacturers make detail sets for it. Another choice, depending on you interest and choice of scale would be the Revell of Germany S-Boat, a recent release, available at a reasonable price. I believe White Ensign Models and maybe some others make detail sets for the S-boat.
I’d also suggest the Tamiya 1/350 Fletcher class destroyer. It builds up beautifully
and both Gold Medal Models and Tom’s Modelworks make PE brass sets for it.
Oh No, if this is your first model ship you need something simple like 1/100 HMS Victory by Heller it’s only 2,109 parts with french instructions ( english set also)
Geez, comeon go for th gusto. [:D][;)]
go for the gusto alright.
i’think i would instead of just dipping my toe in the water just jump right in and soak everyone at poolside.
i just picked up FSM march issue with the uss arizona by trumpeter . i think i’ll might try it since i’ll have a bit of a guide. whats a good site to buy gold metal models stuff . the nearest decent hobby shop to me is 1 hour away.
You can order directly from Gold Medal Models’ website (www.goldmm.com)
Be advised that the photetch set for the Arizona costs more than the kit, but it’s worth every penny. I’m building the Trumpeter Arizona myself right now and the March FSM article is indeed a valuable reference. You may also want to check out the December 2001 FSM issue, which reviews both the kit and the PE brass set. Good luck and have fun!
I have to agree with everyone else that the 350 th fletcher is your best bet .sink your teeth on that before doing “Arizonia” the “fletcher” kit will give you some good modeling experiance. This is what Im doing because I want to do a good job on “Arizonia” Jamest
Same with me, try the Fletcher. It is a fun kit and will build shipbuilding techniques. I usually model aircraft but I found this kit very enjoyable, twice.
thanks for the help. i found the issue with the feltcher in FSM i’m going to use it as a guide. got to start somwhere.
