I found this on another site today and thought it was impressive enough to share it here. F-16’s doing VERY low passes. There is one shot that looks as though the wing tip is no more that four feet from the dirt. Another shot looks like it was taken from a vehicle perch looking DOWN at the bird on it’ way by.
One of the scenes toward the end looked like it came inches from the camera man. That kind of stuff gives me goosebumps. …Love it.
Almost reminds me of the thrill my wife and I got when we went to Sunset beach in St. Maarten. They have an airport RIGHT near the beach where you can get jet blasted and they fly right above you by maybe 20 feet sometimes.
Somehow I get the idea that this pilot was having a great time but I would have to think that getting caught flying like that would pretty much end a carrier. It is amazing nothing was sucked up into the engine and then flying directly over the ground troops. It looked like not all of the troops were happy with the flyover as they were pelted by dust and debris. Still a very cool video. Must have been close to 600 knots by the speed in which the plane disappears from the camera.
I got a feeling i read that this was the french airforce on a beach in france somewhere. Ive seen another of these guysd flying over the sea and they are litterally 6ft off the wave tops. LOL.
Seeing the reporter duck when the Spitfire flew over his head reminds me of an incident which occurred to me several years ago. I was traveling up a mountainside in West Virginia in my convertible sports car. As I got to the mountaintop I could hear a jet approaching. Seconds later a Skyhawk flew over me at tree top level. It startled me so much I almost drove off the road and into a ditch.
The frighteneing bit about that video is the shadow under the plane. At the end of the grass strip the ground rises up. The pilot didnt have a clue i reckon and at one point there looks like there was about 12 inches between prop tip and ground. Even as he was pulling up he still only just missed the guy. Soo funny. I bet there was a faint aroma in the cockpit and on the ground LOL.
Umm, no; the pilot was Ray Hannah, in MH434, and it was taken at Duxford. Having seen him, many times, in that particular aircraft, I can assure everyone that, if anyone knew what he was doing, that was Ray. If you look, carefully, at the clip, you’ll see that Ray was careful to put the wing over the reporter, so that he was in no danger from the prop, or its wash. Apart from the very edge of the airfield, where there’s some banking (which caused the demise of the Blenheim a few years ago,) Duxford is virtually flat, so I suspect that the focal length of the cameraman’s lens might have something to do with the effect.
I Know what your saying Edgar and as someone whos been regularly to the flying legends Airshows at Duxford and have seen Mr Hannahs flying skill, i have to dissagree. Ive looked aty that clip again and one point the prop is no more than 10-12 inches from the ground. Im sorry but there is no way on earth Ray knew he was that close to the ground.
Rationalise it. How much does that spit cost. Do you honestly think that he would intentionally put that plane in any sort of danger? I dont think so. Stop the vid at 22seconds. Need i say more.
Did not know that… Thanks for the info. The one clip does show one of the birds coming in from altitude though. He didn’t have gear down from what I could tell.
