The Wolf's Bookshelf #3 - Luftwaffe Fighter Aircraft in Profile

Luftwaffe Fighter Aircraft in Profile by Claes Sundin and Christer Bergström published by Schiffer

I’m not a real big fan of profiles, or any artists’ impressions, as a means of reference material for modeling; artists are just as susceptible to making errors as modelers. And much of their work, just as is the case with ours, is based on speculation or conjecture.

However, sometimes a profile is the only thing one may have to go by…

Claes Sundin and Christer Bergström are two relative unknowns to all but the most astute enthusiast; Bergström is an established yet somewhat obscure researcher/author and Sundin is a profile artist who is just now reaching the stature of the likes of Tullis or Watanabe.

Regardless of these two Swedish fellas being relative unknowns, they’ve put together a fine volume containing over 120 excellent quality digitally-produced color profiles of Luftwaffe fighters including Bf 109’s, Fw 190’s, Me 262’s, Me 163’s and more.

Each profile is accompanied by a short but fairly detailed description of the aircraft and/or pilot in question, often times with a bit of additional interesting and relevent information thrown in. The majority of the profiles are also accompanied by a photo of the real aircraft.

At the beginning of the book there is the usual philisophical introduction by the authors, a brief yet comlete summary of Luftwaffe colors and markings and, lastly, a bit of insight as to how the artist went about creating the profiles.

These two fellas have also released a second volume with similar content. If it’s anything like this one, it’ll be added to the library before too long.
