The Thrift Store Gods SMILE

On top of a bit of modeling, I raise a few chickens… thats right, backyard chickens. Well, in addition to the vast wealth and fame the cluckers have brought me, I can now add models to their tally.

Recently one of my feeders went on the fritz, and I saw a suitable replacement part at the thrift store, of all places. It was either the thrift store dollar replacement or a $20 feeder - - easy choice.
So I popped in today and, yet again, a couple of models were waiting for me. Mixed in among the many jigsaw puzzles and unfinished macrame kits were these:

This is the old Testors/Fujimi/Academy, 1:48-not quite 1:48 (more like 1:50) classic. All parts are in the box and some dandy fine Phillipine AF decals for a NMF aircraft. Mucho! FOR $1.51, A WINNER.

Okay I’m not a car modeler. There, I said it. Of course I’ve built more than a few as a kid but my adult taste runs to aircraft. Nonetheless, this could be fun. I’m thinking beat up logging vehicle - what do you think?!
For a buck and a half, the buying decision was easy.

Cost $1.51

TOTAL = $3.02 + 6% sales tax

Oh, the Thrift Store Gods are good.

Wow! NICE Hit!

Nice score indeed!BTW I was browsing my local Goodwill store recently and I came upon a Brother type-writer ribbon 2-pack.I have an old Brother word-processor that needed a ribbon and I took a chance and bought them for 2 bucks!Good choice as they fit and printed great!I will frequent the thrift stores more often now!

Thrift stores have always been a good source of odds and ends - “pot luck,” as my mom would say.

Some things are perennial on the shelves: dishware, furniture, books, clothes. You can usually depend on at least one or two of such things being worth a look. I always prowl the books, as I have found many good keepers there. And each store has its own “personality” in what is offered. It pays to visit them and get to know them. Some people shun them, feeling cheap, perhaps, for shopping there. But nowadays any stigma they once had has diminished… I see all sorts of people in them.

In these times, they present a good way to purchase many goods that you might otherwise do without. You do have to be careful that you dont haul home more stuff than you have room for, though

I like to think of them as a form of recycling. Plus they help to benefit someone in the process. All in all, a good deal.

And on occasion, the Gods smile.

I found a Minicraft 737-400 in British Air paint at our local Goodwill. It’s just missing the clear piece. It was marked .99 cents but it was Senior day and Mom was with me, soo… it was about .68 c. Why yes I do believe I’ll be checking it from time to time.

Yeah, go keep on them! I find that the more often you visit the more likely you are to score.

Now that I’ve learned this crucial bit of information, I usually find some reason to swing in there about 3 times per week.

Just wait til those chickens start peckin’ at your plastic! [:O]…[(-D]

And just try cracking those eggs!
