The Pro Group Build

I have been gone a while and feel like starting a group build with as much sucess as the original Bomber Group Build from 2004 to 2005. (made sucessful by the members)

In thinking of a Group build I thought why not make a serious build, one that can test the skills of everyone that decides to join from the beginner to the highly experianced.

A group build for the Pro’s, everyone that wants to step up to the challange and really put there skills to the absolute max almost on the verge of impossible is welcome to join. I want all levels of builders to join and push themselfs.

As I said the object of the build will be to push yourself as a modeler and bring yourself up to another level, through either scratch building, aftermarket parts, conversions, or painting techniques. There will not be a specific subject that you have to build the only rules will be.

You can use aftermarket acessories.

You can convert you model to a different version that requires moderate to extream alterations.

The model must utalize moderate to extream amounts of scratch building.

You only have to apply one of these three things to your kit but you are welcome to apply them all.

If anyone has any suggestions as to other criteria that may be added to the list please feel free to say somthing. There will be no deadline to finish as projects like this should not be rushed, remeber push yourself, think outside of the box, but make shure you have fun doing it.

This is the rough draft so to speak, if enough interest is shown I will post the official build in the Group build section.

I would be interested as long as it doesn’t start for a few months. I’ll be busy on other GB’s for awhile, and this one will need focus.

What could be done is I could make the build into two sessions, one starts now and the other starts in 2 or 3 months for people to finish there other builds and then start on this one.

I would definately be interested in this. I have always built in 1/72 scale. I like building in this scale because i think it is cool to build all my models in the same scale just to show the size relationship between them. However, I have been serriously thinking about moving up to a larger scale just for one build. Just to try my and at some super detailing in the cockpit and various other areas of aircraft. I’ve also wanted to try my shot at a bmf. I’m not sure what kit yet but give me a couple of days to toss some ideas around and i’ll give you my final idea. It will however be about a month before i can start this build.

Great so we got two possibles so far, Ill be entering this build with my 1/48 B-14D converted into an LB-30B and 1/48 B-17G converted into a B-17D scratch building heaven . And if the build goes even longer I can put a few of my wouldbe fighter projects in here too.

Will converting a B-29 to a Russian Tu-4 Bull count as an extreme modification? I plan on slapping some red stars on it and calling it a major mod…lol just messing. I may get into this with a Macchi 202 Folgore. I’ve got a resin cockpit from True Details that I’d like to try out. I am, however, very sceptical of pulling off a paint job like that. I can barely pull off a solid color camo. scheme, lol.

Hey ya know what, go for it throw caution to the wind and do better than your best, this is the opportunity to push yourself with that paint job and show the forums what you can do, remember you can always buy another…though it might be expensive but the options out there.[:D] Plus that paint scheme really isnt as hard as you think to do actually looking at it now it really is very simple, but when you get to that stage Ill show you how to do it. Plus like you said you can try out that resin cockpit.

And the cool part about this is that everyone can feed off eachother, if someone has a problem another can step in and help.

I guess I could be in. I’ve got a 1:48 B-17F that I’m pretty much completely scratching the interior for, and it’s the biggest thing BY FAR I’ve ever attempted. It’s about 2/5 done, but I still have a lot to go.

That is exactly the kinda project that this group build should consist of.

I would be interested in this - I’m going to scratchbuild a 1/72 scale An-225 (for the Size Matters group build). I hope to do most of a 1/72 An-124 at the same time, since they share most major components (the outer wing sections, the engines, and the landing gear, plus parts of the fuselage sections). I’m a bit intimidated by the whole idea, but I figure I’ll just throw myself at it and if I have to take several tries to make parts I’ll learn a lot.

Don’t know if I’ll finish if this has a time limit before next year sometime - I’ve got two vac kits to finish (an An-8 and a Bv.238 for the Floats and Flies group build) before I can focus on the An-225 and An-124. The An-8 is probably 80% done, but the Bv.238 is probably only 20% done.

OK…I am interested in building my Tamiya F-14.If I convert it from an ‘A’ to a ‘D’ including the airframe mods and rescribed it,would this project qualify? Just curious…I joined the Jolly Roger Gb with a 1/48 scale Tomcat only because of the amount of work involved with the 1/32 scale version. Thanks for the replies…

shameless bump

Great two more members for the build, as soon as we get a few more that can start now the build will officially start.

Oh and today I decided to do a low stress easy build, so I broke out the 1/48 Monogram B-17G the 1/48 Revell B-17F some books, a whole bunch of stryrene and the 1/48 B-17G resin update sets for the cockpit and nose compartment , I figured I could add a third build to this and have some fun, I will be makeing a 1/48 B-17E (backdating the B-17G resin set of course) to go with the 1/48 B-17D and 1/48 LB-30B Im building. I also figured I might take a crack at rescribing the bomber too.

Hmm I do have three 1/48 B-26 kits maby a B-26A could be in the works too?

Hmmm…well this doesnt have that much backing too it. I guess when the builds have started to wind down I could post this again, and it is understandable too there are alot of builds out already.

Thank you to those who have shown interest, please keep this build in consideration.

Till then

Hi VA.

I’m looking to start a 1/48 RAAF Mirage III0 in the next week.

It’s an Italeri III E that I’m converting to the Australian O.

It’ll have

  • Resin cockpit
  • resin wheel wells
  • Scratchbuilt exhaust/afterburner can
  • I’ll detail the landing gear with brake lines etc
  • Full re-scribe
  • Custom decals
  • re-positioned elevons and speed brakes to replicate a parked ac.

I hope to start on the rescribe tonight as I’m waiting for my cockpit to turn up. I’m thinking I’ll be scratch building the exhaust can as I don’t like my chances of finding an AM part.

I hope I haven’t bitten off more than I can chew as I have another project due for christmas.

Hope this fits the bill.

Mark

That is a great build and perfect for this, but unfortunetly there just arnt enough members yet for me to start the build. Keep it in consideration and check back time to time and maby well get some more, but as of now the build will not be going forward.

I kinda have one started already. I called it the super detail GB and the thread is over in the GB section.

Alright, Sound good to me , there wasnt enough interest here anyway, probably because you have one similar out already[:D]

But I have got to say its much harder thinking of an original build idea now, back in 03-04 when Group builds really started to pick up it was easy to think of a good build as there were not so many out there. Infact there were very few, I can count around 10-15 in 04 for all the forums. But things have changed since I was a frequent poster here.

Oh well Ill think of something again.

Again thanks for telling me, I wouldnt want to step on your build

The skies the limit,

No problems. You’re more than welcome to join of course. [:)]
