Starting to work with PE for the first time I realized that I needed a pair of needle point tweezers[:0] So, I asked my selecter other where might find them and she replied Sallys[8D] It turns out Sallies is a beauty supply house and somewhere I don’t usually go to on my own[:I] Sure enough, they had just what I needed[:)] While waiting for her to get something as I realized ahead of time I would not get out of there with just tweezers I happened to pass the nail care area[^] They had sanding wands in grits from 150 to 2000 and some of them had as many as four different grits on one wand and at giveaway prices[;)] You can find modeling tools in the strangest places[:D]

Most of the stuff we modellers use is made for other stuff, future being the unltimate example. Glad to hear your brave enough to walk to ailes of a beuty salon, because im not.
Ironic… as I am strolling, (more like draggin my feet, complaining about the time) with my wife today in the cosmetic/facial cleanser aisle at the local walmart I spotted a set of nail sticks with 14 different grades of abrasive… cost??? 92 cents… it even had a felt final polishing side to one of them.
Last time I got my sprue cutters/cuticle removers for about 7 bucks and some change… I may have to venture there more often
The fingernail scissors looked unbelievably similar to the pair that came in my dissection kit from college anatomy. Those quickly became my first sprue cutters and I may try the ones from Wal Mart as the dissection scissors worked better than commercial sprue cutters. (kind of the pocket knife vs. the scalpel effect)
imo…hobbyists in general & scale modellers specifically are an intuitive & creative bunch…finding a need during a project almost always is rectified by some product(s) outside the realm of what’s possible…
thank God for women’s cosmetics or the kitchen utility drawer…etc…
For modeling tools such as small needle files, “Sprue Cutters”, and long tweezers take stroll through the section of a craft store that has to do with making bead necklaces. I got a set of four needle files for about $8, a pair of sprue cutters for $5 that are virtually identical in appearance to the ones that Xuron makes, and a set of 6 different tweezers for under $10 all in the beading section of Hobby Lobby. I’ve seen the same tools at Michaels as well.
My wife is sometimes uncannily intuitive when it comes to finding some special tool or chemical etc to get around a problem area on a model… sometimes we’ll be in a store and she’ll pick something up and ask me “can you use this with your models?” and my eyes go wide because I never saw whatever it was in that light before…
of course there’s the times I just have to smile at some of her suggestions. (only if I have my back tho her though haha)

Ya my mom is always asking if i can use stuff for models, stuff like empty coffe cans, well plastic jugs, which i use a small one for my colored pencils and stuff for drawing plans.
I always hated the term "the other half, I love my wife, she is no other half… I know its just a term and everyone means well, but, I have so much respect for my wife I never condemn her with the label my other half…[#dots], heheh YEH RIGHT!!! [swg]
The Beauty Isle at any local Walmart or Target is full of stuff we can use. Although at 6’-4" I sometimes get a couple of odd looks while rummaging through the nail files and makeup applicators. [:-^]
