After I got my first surgery stitches out, I decided to tackle the Tamiya 1/48 F-15C kit. She was sitting in the box half done already, so I ordered the paint for the mod-eagle scheme and started working. I’m not really happy with Tamiya’s treatment of the Eagle, as they don’t include the featherless exhaust, and the detail in the cockpit/gear bays was soft. The panel line engraving is great, and so is the shape. Mostly, though, I kept making mistakes like when I glued the wings together, I ended up with a step at the seam because I glued the fuselage halves together at the back of the wing joint, when I should’ve left the gap there. Anyhow, I had some decals for the Missouri Air Guard that had a special sheme commemorating one of my other favorite pastimes, Cardinals baseball! It was a celebration of the Cards’ 2006 World Series win, which is the only motivation for not Calvining it. Anyways, here she is:

I have a relative by marriage who pitched for the Cards, I believe he was still on the roster in 06, Jeff Suppan.
Anyways, great build again, and good to see some not so common markings.
Looks nice! I’ve been waiting to do one of these too actually. I was looking into doing one from the gulf war. Would you recommend this kit or the one from Academy?
Ahhh, my first love! The -15 is what I spent my AF career working (and teaching) on. That is one sweet looking Eagle! Funny you did Missouri ANG. When I was in tech school, there was only 2 active duty airmen (myself and one other) and the rest were Missouri ANG troops getting trained on the F-15 since they were transitioning from their current aircraft (F-4’s I think) to the F-15. Thanks, y’all! I remember Suppan, but didn’t know what happened to him. As for Tamiya v Academy, the Tamiya is the only F-15 I’ve done, but the Academy kit has the correct featherless exhaust. I need to build one more (would like to do a mig killer from '91), and I’ll likely go Monogram. It must’ve been something to be in the MOGAR, with McD on the same tarmac.

Nicely done! You have to remember that the Tamiya kit is OLD. It’s nowhere near up to today’s standards of tooling. With that said, you did a great job on it!
