The OFFICIAL Panzer III and Its Variants GB

I got my info from" Panzers Colors II " on page 57 . Not much other than a picture of a Panzer III with the the info i gave you . There isnt much else as far as divisional insignia that can be seen in the picture . I know the 11th Pz. Division insignia looked like a "grim reaper of death " with a sword in a raised hand .

DP - It wasn’t on this website, but I’ve seen one or two GBs on other sites where some people crab about too many pictures being posted. I honestly don’t get it, seeing as pictures are kind of the point of these things! I just wanted make sure, and I’ll post pictures whenever I can.

DoogsATX - Very cute picture of your daughter! Are you thinking about making a modeler out of her in a couple years?

WIP - Ok, so I started work on the hull piece. In order to be perfectly accurate, the directions tell you to cut off the mount for the the front return-roller on each side and replace it with a new one that you put a couple mm over. I was stupid enough to do it, and there are a few scratches on the side of the hull from the haphazard surgery I performed to move the mounts forward. I’ve sanded pretty well and filled in the scratches as best I can given the location of the marks, but I should have never moved them in the first place. First of all, even if a person looking at the model knows that the mounts should be a tiny bit forward, unless they have a scale ruler on them, they won’t be able to notice the difference. Also, the new mounts have a bit of flash and I trimmed away a bit too much, making them a bit skinny compared to the others.

Anyways, the deed is done, and I’m not very proud of it, but I can advise others building this kit to refrain from this sub-step in the directions.

On another note, I think we deserve a pat on the back because, looking at the kit roster, this GB may be single handedly keeping DML/Cyberhobby in business! [:D]

Doogs- Looking forward to your WIP… I love the look of long barrel on that kit. Cute picture of your kid… bet she got the look from her mother [;)]

Armor86- I haven’t had the chance to look at my reference books for Ausf J near Moscow in late 1941. I will do that tonight since my wife and boys will be gone for a night or two visiting her mother. I will be a FREE MAN… life is good! Also, please feel free to post your work on Ausf G here even tho it is not part of GB. [Y]

Hun Hunter- Good luck with the move. Just let us know which StuG you are planning to build so I can update the roster list. Yes, StuGs saw actions in North Africa theater. Only three StuG Ausf D and four StuG Ausf F/8 did… check this out http://www.stugiii.com/theaters.html Hope this helps…

MAJMike- No worries! I plan to start my StuG F/8 in August too as soon as I finish my Panzer IV Ausf H for Ostfront GB. We still have about 364 days to finish our builds… [;)]

Dupes- The management has received your complaint and action was taken immediately to resolve this. Hope you are happy now but I bet Boyd isn’t… [:S] Great about Mia doing your StuG! [flw] Tell her I’d give her a big kiss if she can build a Panzer III Ausf A, B, C, or D if we can find one. LOL

Mike- Thanks for the warning especially that I will be building the same kit later! You are correct about Dragon/C-H… I love Tamiya as much as Dragon/C-H because they are so easy to build or break! We would have seen more Tamiya if they release updated kits!

Guys- Its only 1:37pm and I am leaving work for the holiday weekend… early start to finish my current build! Have a great July 4th weekend!

Yeah, I’m afraid Tamiya might be getting more into R/C and much less into modeling. They only have a couple new aircraft a year, the rest are copies of older stuff or other company’s work (like their reboxing of Italeri’s 1/48 Ar-196). Almost all of their 1/35 stuff is repackaged, too. The problem with this is that their prices are what you’d expect from new molds, even though some of this stuff is really out-of-date. (Their 1/48 Lancaster, while a decent kit, has raised panel lines, poor fit, and is from the 1970s, yet sells for $70+) I don’t care if they use older molds, which is ultimately what Dragon/Cyberhobby does, but they could at least price their kits more decently. But anyways, that’s for another post. Sorry to be [snofftpc]

Anyways, I’m almost done with the wheels, I’ve just got a lot of sanding to do on the idlers (tons of sinkholes). Have a great 4th everybody!

HEY! What the…!!! Oh I see how it is… now just ANYONE can get the super-big font…[whstl]

Ain’t it just freakin’ great… you get ONE whiner in the group and it ruins a perfectly good thing!!! [8o|]

Alright, Dupes… noted.

[;)]

Andy - if we can find a Panzer III A/B/C/D I’LL build it!

Pretty soon everyone is going to have the superbig font…hehehe. [:P]

Ok finally chiming in. Nothin much goin on on the n yet. Cleaned her up and plan to do some road wheels and track cleanin. Anyone have a pic of the desert filters. Wanna make sure my secondary has them.

I wanted to at least get my start picture posted of my Panzer III-G

I didn’t realize that the kit has indy links, but they are not magic tracks, the need to be all seperated from the sprues and cleaned up individually !! I really don’t think I want to deal with that,so I probably will go with AM tracks, although not sure which ones yet.

dupes - I’ve been looking for one, and I’ve also been looking for a SU-76i, but both searches are coming up empty. I think we’ll need to have someone backdate an e model or something, and perhaps take the chassis of a Panzer III Ausf. J and kitbash it with a T-34. There’s an Aires conversion for the Su-76i, but I can’t find it for under 50 big ones.

anthony2779 - It looks like the cyberhobby release of that same kit now comes with magic tracks. There’s a bunch of AM sets on SprueBrothers, but I’m not sure which set is right for you.

Ok guys update …but not much of one . Been working on a retaining wall project . Progress will be slow in the model building department for a while . This weekend will be a stay at home and work on the wall thing . I’ll hoist a new flag on my flag pole but thats about it for for anything on the 4th .

Hey guys,

Off to a flying start!

I’ve just got my little 1/48 StuG III G to complete then I’ll be joining you with my Tamiya Panzer III Ausf N. It’s a lovely looking kit [Y]

On another subject - I know the 4th is a big day to you guys, I assume you all get the day off work and drink and be merry etc so, is the 4th a non-modelling day?

I don’t know why we don’t have flags - I’d love a Union Flag and a St. Georges Cross in the garden on a great big pole or even hanging from the front of the house on an angled pole maybe?

Unfortunately the ‘white supremacists’ hijacked the St. Georges Cross as their own symbol so it’s now looked upon as being somewhat racist! That’s how crazy it’s getting over here with politcal correctness and all that crap which I hate. He’s our bloody Patron Saint FFS!

The only time you see Crosses now are when England are playing in Football (Soccer [;)] ) tournaments! The place looks great and everyone’s mood lifts. I keep my little St. Georges cross flag hanging from from my car ariel all year round.

Rant over! Looking forward to joing the GB - I’ll be along soon!

Ben [t$t]

For a lot of people over here this will be a 3 day weekend at least . Some people get off on july 1 also . Probably a lot of people will be going camping …thats what we call getting back in touch with nature .You know ,take several days after work durring on the preceeding week to pack up all of your house hold belongings , get in your vehicle of choice with the family , get out of town along with the rest of humanity to get to your place of paradise (with thousands of other people who have the same idea ) unpack your junk , fight the flies and mosqueto’s for a couple of days . eat junk food and drink beer , stay up till 3 am Sunday night telling stories and drinking , get up monday feeling like you were you rolled down a dusty dirty hill side with your mouth open , listen to the kids complain about being bored and your wife is starting her period , pack up all of your stuff (which now takes up twice as much space?) the drive home will take 2 to 3 hrs , get a flat tire , finally get home at 8pm , rung out , dirty , kids and wife crabby , go to grab a beer out the cooler but the ice is all melted and its warmer in the cooler than it is outside , now the kids want to shoot off fireworks till midnight !!! [B]

Carl’s description of 4th of July weekend is EXACTLY why I’ll be staying home…ride the bike, grill some steaks, watch Le Tour, and BUILD!

Same here Dupes ! Staying home for the long weekend . I’m taking the 4th off from my retaining wall project and kicking back !

Carl’s and Dupe’s July 4th tribulations deserve our prayers. My Lovely Bride aka SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) are just finishing4 days in Memphis visiting her family and we will hit the road for Lake of the Ozarks tomorrow. We’ll visit a couple of days and then hit the road on the 6th back to Texas.

Then, maybe, I can complete one GB and start on this one and the HO229 GB.

Thanks Maj . Have a good trip and do what SWMBO tells you ![B]

anthony2779, working on similar Pz III Ausf. G (Cyber 9116 - updated Imperial Series 9032) … the updated cyber kit comes with magic track along with other updated details … photos below, building under another GB … just finished primer paint red-brown. The clasp / tool fasteners came from Eduard detail etch set for the Pz. III Ausf. F; gun barrel is from ‘The Tank Shop’.

Tow Cable was scratch build using network cable wire and fasteners from Eduard set and On Target etch set.

MAJMike- Try not to have too much with your SWMBO. Loved Lake of Ozarks and Branson back in 2007.

Guys- Guess what Carl (Shellback) and I did for few hours tonight? We worked on our GB badge and it is finally ready!!! Are you ready to see it?

Heck yeah, I can hear drums… being deaf doesn’t mean I can not hear anything! Here’s the GB badge…

!(http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww137/aleffler/Panzer III Ausf E/PanzerIIIGBBadge.jpg)

*** This is the corrected GB badge… thanks Carl! ***

Carl found this great picture of Pz III and I found this cool font so they got along perfectly… it just reminds us of Zimmerit of course! Let us know what you think… Carl and I are off drinking beer now. Thank you Carl… cheers! [B] [B]

Armor86- Looking great! I really dig that barrel canvas… did you use one of those rattle can for the red-brown primer job? It looks very good too. [Y]

I will have to order another one (Barrel with canvas cover - Tank Workshop) for the GB Pz III Ausf J - Initial Production Project … started over the weekend and got as far as assembling idler wheel w/photo etch, directed corrections on the lower hull, and sprocket wheels. May have to look for something to fit over the sprocket wheel inside the final-drive housing so it still turns …

The Pz III Ausf G was primer painted with Tamiya Red-Brown - airbrush … Tamiya paint seems to be a hard to find item at the local hobby shops … Tamiya is redoing something in the paint line. The final paint camo will be two tone using Vallejo paint.
