The Official F4U Corsair Group Build 4/01/08 - rolling end date

All I’ve found is that Joe Foss, being a USMC Pilot flew F4Fs then transitioned to Corsairs. Yeah, I couldn’t tell if it’s a F4F or a F4U, pics to close…(if he had any stick tome in F6s, I haven’t read it…yet.)

here’s another one, odd, but another one… http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://modelingmadness.com/WarplaneColors/39/39.jpg&imgrefurl=http://modelingmadness.com/WarplaneColors/index.htm&h=446&w=850&sz=43&hl=en&start=84&um=1&tbnid=M0M2C98FlnNNPM:&tbnh=76&tbnw=145&prev=/images%3Fq%3D%2522Joe%2BFoss%2522%26start%3D80%26ndsp%3D20%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN

6th bird down

You picked a good one, the data out there about Joes’ Corsair is scant at best, he made his claim to fame in the Widcat, so tehre is hardly anything out thre about his other mounts.

(Just putting both links on one post.)

about half way down…a mono-color bird.

Well, if the pic in that link is any bit accurate, then he flew in a tri-color F4U-1A.

Thanks for your research, guys! [8D]

IMHO there is absolutely no doubt that the Sioux City Chief is an F4U-1, A to D. The strap on the side of the cowl defines that, and the cowl flaps.

Small update. Started on the AIRES wheelwell set. One big prob, its for the Trump. It is duable, but will take lots of sandind. Also for some reason the opening on lower wing for the Trump is about 3-5 mm. shoter than the Revell???So it will need sone fill. I hope it looks ok in the end. Temps here are about 10-12 deg. cooler today, but smokey cond. are VERY BAD! Viss. is down to about 5 miles. and the sun is a dull red/orange ball. Wierd! Hope everyone has a good weekend and mabey get some build time in. I`m still working 6 days a week…Harv

Here is my “generic” Corsair. I couldn’t decide how I wanted to mark it, so ----- I didn’t. Maybe I will later. It has an Eduard zoom cockpit and I added some brake lines, otherwise OOB. For the antenna wires, I borrowed some of the wife’s metallic black embroidery thread, tied a washer on one end, and dipped it in Future a few times. It stiffened sufficiently to make a decent wire I think. Paint is Tamiya AS-8 Navy Blue (rattle can) with coat of Future. I didn’t like the real shiny finish, so I top-coated with MM flat clear acryl.

Thanks to all of you guys for inspiration and some good ideas and advice. Daywalker - I hope you don’t mind my using your worn fuel tanks. Drew - thanks for the advice about the unfolded wing build. I had a little trouble with the right wing fit, but not too bad. This is my fourth build and it turned out pretty fair. I’m not in the “pro” class with you guys yet, but I’m reasonably happy with my progress.

Thanks again,

Ken

Ken, that’s a fine build, very nice. It doesn’t look like a fourth model, no way. I think you’ve been building shiny cars or something. I managed to have to work at getting the flaps lined up right on mine, yours look very well matched.

Beautiful work Ken! I gotta agree, I would never have thought it was your fourth model if you hadn’t said so. Excellent work on those drop tanks, glad I could inspire you to do it. You should be VERY proud of this build. [tup]

Ken that looks absolutely wonderful!!! I think I would leave it as is, as pre-delivery plane ready to leavr the factory![2c] GREAT BUILD MATE!!!

Cheers, Richie

Ken,

Great build…flawless bird!!

Mark

Beautiful bird, Ken. I like the lack of markings - it’s a brand new bird that hasn’t been assigned yet.

Display it proudly [tup]

Ken, you did great, my freind! You build like a pro. Thanks for the pics.

Im suffering yet another set back. The Aires whellwell set (for the Trump) Ive been trying to fenese into this Revell just wont work Its too short. too thick and I just cant get it done. I stopped on it so I wouldnt destroy any parts… Does anyone want to trade something for this set? Its really nice…for a Trump model!! Any way I called Great models and ordered the Lone Star set for the Revell, but it will be 4-6 weeks!!( special order). So mabey I`ll try working on the engine. Hope THAT goes ok…Harv

Wow, man - great build! Can’t believe it’s only number 4…should be some excellent stuff coming down the pipeline! [tup][tup]

Harv-

Sorry to hear this one is taking it’s toll on you. Hopefully, things with it improve sooner than later. Hang in there mate, it’ll get better soon! [^]

Looks great Ken! [tup] Very nice finish and great overall look! Well done [#toast]

Thank you all for your generous comments [:I] (and for sharing your wealth of knowledge). It seems like it took me a long, long time to complete. This one joins my two F-51Ds and T-33 on the shelf. Time to get back to my ANG builds - probably a T-6 or F-102.

Ken

Hey guys!! Can’t believe I’m still working on my cockpit…Picked up the Eduard PE for my “birdcage” and it’s taking a long time…never worked this detailed before…it’s amazing how some of those PE parts like to fly off into space…never to be found again…oh well…there goes a lever…oops lost a dial…Hope to finish it and post a picture soon…

Mark

Hi all,

Been busy and off the boards for a while.

Ken – nice, clean build, very good work!

I’ve not started on my entry yet. I ordered the cockpit and wheels a month ago but just heard back from GMW today – the cockpit is still out of stock and they’re delaying dispatch till it comes in. Hey-ho – better than the package gone missing, as I feared it might have!

Cheers,

TB379

Nothing from you guys for 2 whole days? That doesn’t sound right…
