The Northrop XP-56 Black Bullet

Wow, that is unusual. This is one reason I love XP- birds. They have all kinds of neat features (probably most of which didn’t work once it left paper).

It’s a shame prototype aircraft like this aren’t more mainstream in the modeling world, to the point where more kits would get released.

Or, in the case of the XP-56 wingtip baffles, were about the only thing that DID work! [:D]

In the end, all this color discussion is moot anyway. I’ve seen muti-page threads spring up overnight arguing about certain exact tints and shades of WWI lozenge camo, even dredging up actual fabric samples to support one cause or another, only to have someone else dispute the color because someone’s moniter isn’t calibrated exactly right. At the end, it’s usually the same as the beginning- no one has any clue for sure.

This is why I like to build little-known prototypes more than mainstream builds anyway- because there are so few “experts”, you are offered a bit more leeway when it comes to detailing and painting them. With planes like the P-51, it seems like EVERYONE knows when one panel line of your build is off. Show them same people an obscure Russian prototype, and they magically all shut up.

Let me say that I’m still firmly in the “Olive Drab” category, but that’s simply based off of what I’ve seen and what I know- EXACTLY the same things that Gigatron based HIS decision on. Ultimately, like he said- the model is finished, HE’S happy with it- therefore, I say successful build.

I’ll get off my soap box now.

Well said, Lucien [tup]
