[#ditto] Yep, been building a model. I got the floor, seats and inside door handles done on the Malibu today. The dash is gonna be some work. I looked at interior pics of original 66 Chevelles, and it turns out I’ll be doing a good bit of chrome strips on this interior.
I don’t really like the all red interior on the box art, so I’m doing a black & red interior with gray floorboard plus chrome strips. So, there’s some red in there but nowhere near as much as the box’s all red interior. I’m also adding inner door panel details because this model has none.
Only another week and a half until I can polish the solid black painted body!
Chevelles, GTO’s and Monte Carlos are my favorites. I’ve had two Monte Carlos so far, and one of them is what I drive now. I never have come close to aquiring a Chevelle or a GTO though. There are a couple of SS396 models out there if you ever wanna build one
[(-D] i was about to type the samething brother!!!LOL you beat me too it!! and i’m sueing for naming an airbrush after me without my consent…you’ll be hearing from my lawyers soon!!! later.[;)]
Got my stang done… now I need ot get a new battery for my Dig Cam I barrowed. You all make batteries too (doing this just for mikeV, the whole new drodge of batteries to hit the market and Mike is still wondering if we build models [;)]) And the battery has to be named after me.
Ebay is the only place I can find 'em. Hobbytown near me only had one box of a '66 Malibu & I bought it. There’s a Revell '67 and a Revell '65 Z-16 in there now. I just browse to the “Models, Kits” part of Ebay & do a search for “SS 396”. It gives a full page of Chevelles & a couple of Camaros.
I built the '69 (the AMT one) when I was 17. It was before I knew how to do white paint on car bodies. I remember thinking, “this is such a nice model, it’s too bad I decided to attempt to do it in white”. So, I’ll have to build that one again some day too.
mine was a cherry red, I’ll have to do some research and see if I can find the exact color (or close proximity) definitely an enamel, gotta get that “wet look” finish… had the black deck stripes up the hood and trunk…
That’s sorta like the color scheme of the interior I’m doing for the Malibu. The seats are mostly black down the centers with only the edges in red. The back seat has red edges and a red stripe in the center. I wanted some red in there, but a completely red interior in this black car was just not doin’ it for me. It’s got a gray floor pan with black door details.
haha sounds like a pimp mobile… black car, completely red interior… of course I do remember someone in my family had like a 69 LeSabre or something like that with the same thing…
I used the Dremel router last night to punch 5 holes behind the back seat of the Malibu model. I had glued the back seat in and wanted to ventilate the un-dried enamel pant that was closed up inside. Also, I used the smaller router bit a few nights ago to carve out the roof of the Jaguar XJ220 (the Revell-Germany model with a right side driver’s seat!). They molded it with a solid roof under the clear roof. That’s not how the real car is. I bought this stuff in February, and I’m just now getting to use it for something. I also have the better plunge router attachment. I doubt I’ll be using that on models. Maybe I’ll use it to carve a notch in my desk so my X-acto will quit rolling around.
Yes, this thread is getting a little off topic. Some people do not like that.
I hope no one has forgotten about the classic series of airbrush we sell-the Bulge Brush Classic™. I want to remind people of the features. It has holes on the sides to relieve pressure so you can get 1mm away from your airbrush masterpiece to put a “Millionth-of-an-inch™” paint drop. And if you pull the “Super Lube Flue™” handle then the same holes will spray a 240 degree circle of paint 5 feet around for 100% coverage.
Bulge Brush Classic also has the biggest nozzle in the industry, the “Mega-Needle™”. You can spray instant Zimmert on a model tank. If you miss the tank and hit the wall with the paint then you have instant stucco for the holes you might have blown in wall with the previous experience of using the patented Bulge Brush Classic “Burst Mode™”.
I propose this: It is an airbrush that can be billed as the Paasche H-R. I forget where I got the idea for the name, but anyway here is the concept: It is an external mix siphon feed that is build backwards so that people can airbrush tan their own faces.
