I’m thinking of getting the new type Badger 200 to replace my old type 200 which appears to be banjaxed. Is it similar to the old type? I’d be using it mainly for base coats.
It’ll work well for basecoats, although you may not be able to get as fine of a line that you can with an old style 200. The 200NH uses the Anthem’s needle and head. The old 200 uses the needle and head from the 100/150 series which were primarily designed as illustration brushes. If you contact Badger, they offer a rebuild program, but you probably only need a thorough cleaning, new tip, and needle, all of which you can do yourself. Also, Badger will replace the needle bearing free of charge if that is needed as well.

I would highly recommend the 200. I bought one for Christmas and love it! The smoothness of the paint is amazing.
I advocate acrylic paints and just to lend some ideas for using them, if you already use them hopefully you can get more from my notes.
First and foremost I buy the craft paints found at most craft stores and have been using them for about twenty years and find them to be not only very inexpensive, under $1.00 for 4 oz. but also very user friendy in that they can be thinned with blue windshield wiper fluid, which does not tint the colors and they are easily airbrushed from this mix.
Next, the drying stage of airbrushing should take effect when the paint first hits the surface of the model, this is accomplished by the fact that the alcohol in the wiper fluid dries the paint almost instantly. This is the most desirable feature, using a hair dryer to complete the drying process. Set the dryer on LOW heat and go back and forth alnong the model. This acts like a poor-man’s paint drying booth and will set the paint which will take decals and other finished very nicely.
Just some ideas to hopefully enhance your model building enjoyment.

Johncpo, did you get the 200-20 model? This is the one I’m going to get. I can’t get through to the Badger website at the moment as it seems to be having a technical difficulty.
Does it spray a wide pattern like the old model? The advertising states “Detail airbrush”.
Sorry, I actually meant the new model of the 200, the 200-20. It looks completely different from the 200 NH.

Sorry I did not elaborate, I bought the 200 Bottom Feed which I believe is the latest model in that category. Also I’ll look up the distributor as I paid $48.00 for the A/B two jars, feed cap, storage jar cap and the medium needle. I’ll get back with you here as soon as I remember the distributor.

I could’nt find the distributor but I logged onto the Badger website and found it to be locking up my PC so I got off, for some reason it happened more than once.
I think you are on the right track with your choice in A/Bs. I have had the best action with mine and the medium needle that comes with it provides a 1/32" to 2 1/2 " wide sprays and is listed as the detailing A/B as far as I could get on the Badger site.
I you have anymore questions please let me know as I have used A/bs for years in many model applications.

The Badger 200-20 is the old style 200 with the fine head and needle assembly. The major difference between the -20 and the old style is the “calibrated” tail end for needle adjustment. With that brush, you could ,in theory, get as fine a line as a 100LG. HTH.
