The Mustang and Corvette Group Build

This GB is open to anyone who feels like building a Ford Mustang or a Chevrolet Corvette. It can be any scale, a road car, a classic, a racing car, a police car or any other as long as it’s a Mustang or Corvette.

It will run for seven months, from November 1st 2013 until May 31st 2014.

You can enter models in any stage of completion, as long as they are not fully complete.

Crossovers are fine and welcome.

The only rules are that the must be a Ford Mustang or Chevrolet Corvette, and is not military.

You can use any material, kit, aftermarket, decals or whatever.

Please enter your WIP photos along the way and engage in conversation with fellow builders.

Sign up anytime.

Thanks to EWheeler454 for developing the badges, outstanding work Eric.

This is the badge you get for entering the Group Build:

You get extra ponies or sharks for each completed build. Pick up the badge as you complete, but not before.

First Vette completed,

First Mustang completed,

Two corvettes completed.

One Corvette and one Mustang completed

We’ll add to these as we need to. If you complete a Mustang and a Corvette for example, you get a badge with one pony and one shark. Three completed builds would get three ponies or sharks etc.

If you manage to complete five builds, which is seriously good going, we’ll email a special gold badge to recognise your achievement.

Good luck everyone, and have fun.

Cheers

Tony

That was really quick Eric ! I just went to the stash in the garage to find my kit and you’re already in !

I’ll go with the Monogram 1/24 '53 Corvette first up.

I did have a serious look at the Monogram Miller Mustang, and the Revell 60 Corvette fell down from it’s high spot and hit me on the head, so it nearly got a run too.

I’ll update the Build Roster now.

Tony

Thanks Tony.

Just happened to log in and check and saw you had it up.

Vroom Vroom!

Cheers Tony and Eric!

I’m in!

Revell '69 Ford Mustang Mach I Cobra Jet

I forgot. Time permitting, I will likely add a vette! I’m trying to decide on a kit. I have a couple ideas, but I won’t buy the '53 kit I saw as I don’t want to duplicate. There are so many others to choose from.

Tony, add me to the list with the old MPC Mako Shark II and a Monogram '65 or '66 Stang. At this point not sure in what style the Stang will be done but it will come to me later. rommel

Wow, 8 builds already, I am stoked. I have updated the build roster gents, and as it’s now 6:48am on th 1st November here, I’m gonna make a symbolic start on my 'vette before I go to work

Hey!!! That’s cheating on a global scale!!! I wasn’t sure if you were living in the states or Australia, but now I know. LOL!!! [t$t]

I am considering a '62 Vette Convertible like Coleson drives in S.H.I.E.L.D.

Any kit recommendations? Are any better than the others?

KTKROW,

I think your idea with the 63’ would be interesting.

I wanted to get started today since I have to wait on the Bel Air to dry, but we have a big storm running through.

Hopefully it will clear up enough where I can get maybe an hour in hehehehe.

Eric

Do we post the builds in this thread or do we each start a separate thread? Sorry, new to the Group Build threads. I have the Corvette Indy show car I’ll do for this build.

Hi robiwon.

You post in this thread. If you use the “Use rich formatting” button, it make it easier to insert your progress photos. (I found out the hard way). Look forward to seeing your vette.

L8TR,

Eric

Hi robiwon,

I’ve added you to the build roster. Feel free to post work in progress updates in this thread, or chat generally about Corvettes and Mustangs here.

Hi Ktkrow

I’ll wait for you to finalise your Corvette decision then let me know and I’ll update.

Cheers

Tony

I’m in with Revell’s 69 Baldwin Motion Corvette. It’s been sitting on my bench taunting me for about a week. I’ll be spending Sunday with my new camera, trying to figure out how to get pics from my camera to my computer, and then posted. But I hope to have some wip pics by next weekend.

Thanks for hosting this, I’m looking forward to learning a lot about Automotive modeling.

Dale

Hi Dale,

It’s great to have you on board, I hope you enjoy it. I’ve updated the Build Roster.

Autos are new to me. I’m building a Mini Cooper now (my 1st auto). I’ve always liked the Corvette Stingray like the 73 (74?) white one Bill Bixby drove in “The Magician”. (Probably showing my age here but it was a popular show in my college dorm.) Does anyone make a nice kit of a Stingray Corvette from that time period?

OK, it’s Nov. 1 and I just did the monumental task of getting the Shark out of the box. This kit has been in my stash for a LONG TIME and wish I had looked it over a little closer. I cringed when I found a slight warp to the body, bad glass and first thing the engine block halves had the locator pins misaligned and had to be trimmed away. The block takes lots of cleanup to fit without large gaps. I keep forgetting that these 60’s kits were not engineered like kits today but I can deal with it. I have not yet chosen a color for this one but I am leaning toward a blue. I never liked the fade away paint on the 1:1 so I will not try that. Well, I have knife and gloo in hand so here goes………………

Hi Alan,

I’ no expert, so I tried googling it. I didn’t find one, unfortunately. Others here may know more than me.

Cheers
